Job Summary:

Following the successful launch of Disney+ in North America, Australia, and New Zealand, we are looking to hire a Senior SRE to join our New York based squad and continually expanding SRE initiative. Our SRE teams are leading the improvements, optimization, and availability of applications across the Disney Streaming Services organization, taking a consultative approach to SRE by educating, mentoring, and delivering automation to foster performance and resiliency in best practice.

Our SRE teams are focused on the improvements, optimization and availability of our applications. We have taken a consultative approach in that we focus on educating, mentoring and delivering tools to development teams, fostering best practice in terms of performance and resiliency.

As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer, you should be well versed with DevOps methodologies, having had worked in roles requiring your technical expertise for the development of modern tools, having achieved efficient and sustainable operational process and having had collaborated with many software and product teams. These experiences have helped you develop a keen understanding of the core SRE tenets (availability, latency, efficiency, capacity planning, etc…) and their importance to the day to day operations of applications and services.

As a senior member, you will be looked at as a mentor, coach and leader by the team.


What will you do as a Senior SRE at Disney Streaming Services:

  • Continuously refine monitoring processes, thresholds, and configuration

  • Work closely with product developers to ensure new features have the proper operational support and maintainability - provide deep technical guidance to development teams

  • Consult and advise teams with regards to defining SLOs and SLIs, resulting in metric exposure, measurement and alerting.

  • Help with designing, building and maintaining the cloud-native platform needed to support our growth plans, we do that handling Infrastructure as code and automating as much as we can

  • Mentoring and supporting team members on production readiness and best practices

  • Develop software for the purposes of automating, monitoring and maintaining deployed infrastructure and services

  • Addressing high-severity internal or customer incidents

  • Ensuring we meet all SLOs

  • Help teams create and maintain documentation and runbooks/playbooks

  • Participate in Agile processes and ceremonies

  • Be able to learn to code in new languages

  • Respond to issues and escalations

  • Participate in on-call rotation

Basic Qualifications:

What we’d like to see:

  • Track record of seniority or leadership in a team of Software or Systems Engineers

  • Track record of working as a Site Reliability Engineer, DevOps Engineer, or a Software Engineer

  • Experience in mentoring/coaching Software Engineers

  • Experience using Agile practices

  • Experience with modern open-source infrastructure services and concepts such as Redis, ElasticSearch, Kafka and NoSQL.

  • Experience in at least one scripting language: Python, Ruby, Bash, Perl

  • Experience in software development with Go, Python and JVM languages in general.

  • Experience in working with configuration management and infrastructure as code tools such as Puppet, Chef, SaltStack, Ansible, CloudFormation, Terraform etc.

  • Experience in working with cloud platforms, preferably AWS

  • Exposure to multi-region cloud infrastructure

  • Experience in managing distributed systems

  • Track record of working with Linux systems in production

  • Experience in working with Docker

  • Experience in working with any functional programming language would be beneficial.

  • Experience working with geographically distributed teams would be beneficial.
