Vice President, Sales Strategy and Account Planning - Publishing

- This role is considered hybrid, which means the employee will work a portion of their time on-site from a Company designated location and the remainder of their time remotely.

Strategic Leadership and Sale Planning

  • Develop and execute imprint level sales strategies designed to meet aggressive revenue growth targets

  • Oversee third-party distribution partnership to ensure strategic alignment and an effective working relationship

  • Develop go-to-market account plans, set annual sales goals, and guide and motivate internal sales team and distribution partner to achieve targets.

  • Drive title-level market positioning and profitability across all retail and ecommerce accounts

  • Manage a team of internal sales professionals, and oversee departmental interactions with publicity, marketing, editorial, and operations

  • Manage internal custom program including prospecting, costing, and sales operations

Partnership with Finance and Operations

  • Understand and participate in the P&L management process in order to maximize profitability

  • Partner with Finance and Operations to build quarterly forecasts, annual budgets and 5 Year financial plans

  • Partners with Operations team on demand and inventory planning to ensure bottom line profitability

  • Regularly provide and update sales estimates to ensure forecast alignment

  • Proactively identify where improvements can be made within the sales and distributions processes, and devise and implement solutions

  • Collaborate with Disney Integrated Merchandise Retail team to drive book-specific, promotions and positioning at key retail and specialty accounts

Market Acumen and Innovation

  • Keep abreast of industry trends in effort to inform portfolio planning

  • Partner with analytics teams to create reporting/analysis tools to identify market gaps and growth opportunities

  • Continuously analyze the competitive environment

  • Employ innovation mindset, continually seeking opportunities for new business and new processes

Basic Qualifications:

  • 15+ years sales experience in Publishing industry

  • Broad publishing category experience is ideal – including children, adult, thriller, mystery, science, etc.

  • Proven strategic sales skills, with success in setting and achieving sales targets

  • Strong analytical and planning skills

  • Strong relationship building, presentations, influencing skills

  • Resilience, tenacity & diplomacy

  • Ability to lead and motivate teams and provide strategic direction

  • Excellent organizational savvy and communication skills

  • Ability to engage with senior level executives

  • Comfortable using & working through a matrix structure to deliver the end solution

  • Travel is required
