Director, Project Management – Resorts

The Director will have responsibility for Development and Project Management of a large portfolio of Resort development and renovation projects. The position is responsible to oversee all scopes of work, brand design compliance and approvals, development of schedules and budgets, cost controls, construction, and other compliance processes to open projects within committed and approved budgets and timelines. The Director must take ownership of the project process and be able to identify and mitigate project risks and challenges.

Goals/Objectives
  • Develop and implement programs that protect the assets of the company, enhance the guests’ experience, and minimize disruption to the operation
  • Schedule planned projects with a focus on optimizing financial and human resources
  • Recruit, hire, train and lead talented resources from candidates that reflect the diversity of our community and guests
  • Forecast, communicate and proactively resolve asset, scheduling, risk and budget issues in a transparent manner
  • Collaboratively share resources and best practices with domestic partners throughout the organization
  • Develop and support meaningful and consistent performance measures, standard operating guidelines, and program/project controls and governance
  • Build relationships in order to partner with peer support organizations in project planning and implementation, and development of best practices

This executive will report to the Vice President, Walt Disney World (WDW) Facility Asset Management (FAM).

Responsibilities

  • Planning and Scheduling – lead teams and take responsibility for developing comprehensive overall design management and schedules to deliver innovative design solutions to maximize value and that accomplish stakeholder goals with minimal impact to daily operations
  • Project Execution – take responsibility for leading teams to deliver projects while maintaining cost control, scheduling, permitting, construction, FFE loading, operational turnover, openings, and close out functions and while minimizing operational outages, finding delivery efficiencies, and evaluating lifecycle cost
  • Coordinate and Partner with internal clients, external vendors/contractors, and internal departments to deliver exceptional service for Resort Operations
  • Cast Development – develop the Cast in an inclusive environment through coaching, continuous learning, technology, and support of local initiatives and strategies
  • Controls – monitor and enforce guidelines and policies related to safety, accounting, project management and risk management tools, and coordination with local governing authorities
  • The Director must take ownership of the project process and be able to identify and mitigate project risks and challenges

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of ten year progressive project leadership experience with a major hospitality brand or related industry
  • Demonstrated experience creating, negotiating, and managing large design and construction contracts for Resort/Hotel renovation projects, including room renovations
  • Proven blend of business acumen, independent judgement, strategic vision, technical expertise, and hands-on leadership
  • Proven ability to inspire, motivate, and lead a team to develop creative and efficient solutions throughout the project lifecycle
  • Proactive communicator and relator who can interface effectively at all levels in the company and can appropriately influence business results through negotiation, influence, and personal presence
  • Proven track record of driving efficiency and effectiveness in large teams through established and creative metrics and collaboration
  • Experience with decision making based on lifecycle analysis for long-term asset management
  • Demonstrated compassion and commitment to diversity and inclusion, including inviting diverse perspectives, fostering an inclusive work environment, and supporting workforce diversity

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business or related field

Preferred Education

  • MBA or equivalent
