Job Summary:

As a Disney Culinary Program participant at the Walt Disney World® Resort, you will become part of the magic that is known worldwide, gain on-the-job experience working in our parks and resorts, participate in unique learning experiences, and have the opportunity to meet and live with people from all over the world in the housing community. You will embark on a new journey with our Culinary Program as you create lasting impressions and unforgettable dining experiences for our guests from around the world. Master your craft as you work side-by side with culinary leaders and team members in areas that range from catering and fine dining to pastry and quick-service.

We are recruiting for Programs with arrival dates through Summer 2023. Individual Program lengths vary and may be in accordance with your school requirements. Program length must be between 4 months (16 weeks) to 6 months (24 weeks).

You will indicate your arrival availability at time of interview.

Responsibilities:

Culinary Assistant, Cook II
  • Working in an a la carte, buffet, catering/special events, production or quick-service/food court environment (may include an on-stage cooking location)
  • Working with basic recipes and learning advanced food preparation
  • Gaining skills in culinary fundamentals in hot and cold food station setup, sauce-making, catering production, and salad/sandwich preparation
  • Deep-frying, sautéing, roasting, boiling, and grilling, along with vegetable, grains, and starch cookery
  • Following standardized recipes and food sanitation guidelines
  • Students with additional years of experience/education may be considered for a Cook 1 role
  • Culinary Assistant, Baking & Pastry
  • Working in a high-volume bakery, banquet, catering/special events, production or restaurant environment
  • Learning the technical skills of plated dessert preparations as well as muffins, breads, cookies, petit fours, and cupcakes
  • Gaining knowledge of food cost control and product ordering
  • Mixing, cutting, proofing, and baking
  • Following standardized recipes and food sanitation guidelines
  • Students with additional years of experience/education may be considered for a Baking & Pastry 1 role

Basic Qualifications:

Participation in this Program requires
  • Be at least 18 years of age at time of application
  • Possess unrestricted work authorization within the United States
  • Be fully available to work Sunday through Saturday, including days and nights, holidays and overtime
  • Be receptive to Disney Look appearance guidelines
  • Perform consistent production and presentation of well-prepared, flavorful food while ensuring the highest sanitation standards (HACCP – Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) and exceptional Guest service
  • Able to stand/walk for the entire shift, lift up to 50 lbs. and work in a variety of locations including indoors and outdoors
Recipe for Success
  • Possess passion for the culinary arts and desire to learn more in the Food & Beverage industry
  • Demonstrate good judgment of quantity, quality and production
  • Display proficient knife skills and knowledge of basic cuts
  • Able to understand the importance of and follow a recipe, including identify various food products, dairy, meats and produce
  • Cast Members will be required to handle cleaning chemicals and supplies

Required Education

  • Full-time or part-time student in a Culinary Arts/Baking & Pastry program seeking a certificate or degree in the United States
    • Currently enrolled in at least one (1) class and have completed at least one semester or
    • Graduated in the past twenty-four (24) months
  • Currently enrolled students may need to meet additional school requirements, such as:
    • GPA
    • Grade level
    • Number of credit hours earned
*United States includes all 50 states plus Puerto Rico and all other United States territories.

Additional Information:

  • Programs occur year-around, and vary in length. The specific time frame of your program will be discussed at the time of the interview
  • A Disney Culinary Program participant's wage will be:
    • $16.40 per hour for Cook 2 / Baking & Pastry 2
    • $19.00 per hour for Cook 1 / Baking & Pastry 1
    • $20.00 per hour for Cook 1 Signature
(Effective June 4, 2023 - the starting rate will increase $3-4 per hour based on role)
