The Managing Editorial team member manages the editorial, design, and copyediting workflow for Disney Publishing Worldwide Books, ensuring that all books hit their release dates. He/she also serves as a liaison between editorial, marketing, publicity, and sales, ensuring that the reps are supplied sales material for all books in a timely manner.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the editorial and design development of DPW books by managing and prioritizing schedules, and setting and tracking dates; works closely with the Editorial Director, the editorial team to create book schedules and prioritize weekly workflow

  • Runs weekly production/development meetings in which projects—including obstacles and solutions—are reviewed and discussed. Communicates regular reminders to editors, photo editors, and designers of weekly priorities; maintains and distributes scheduling reports

  • Maintains schedules and updates in PUBS; generates title reports as requested or required; informs editorial, sales, marketing, and publicity of pub list changes

  • Coordinates the review and approval of digital bluelines; approves final digital proofs

  • Meets with sales and marketing on a regular basis to determine sales material needs; informs editors and designers of deadlines for sales and marketing materials; keeps sales and marketing informed of changes in sales material delivery dates

  • With operations, coordinates collection of information for Print-Bind and Spec Lock

  • Oversees the correct use and placement of ISBNs, printer codes, bar codes, pricing, branding; acts as liaison with Legal on questions of copyright, trademark, branding, permissions; researches book publishing standards; with Operations, ensures adherence to distributor's guidelines for bar codes, pricing, etc.

  • Attends regular business meetings to support needs of Editorial Director and the editorial team

  • Completes various administrative tasks, including the preparation and submission of LOC Cataloguing-in-Publication applications, and other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills and strong copyediting and proofreading skills required

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently

  • Meticulous attention to detail

  • Ability to work with digital documents—using Word, Excel, and Adobe software—and database applications

  • Collaborative spirit and strong interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in publishing, preferably in children’s and/or young adult books; knowledge of publishing workflow

Preferred Education

  • College degree preferred
