Job Summary:

Global Telecom Strategy and Engineering (GTSE) is responsible for technology strategy and management, central engineering, architecture, and IT for The Walt Disney Company including Disney, Fox, ESPN, ABC, Marvel, Lucasfilm, Pixar, Disney+, Parks, Resorts, and Cruise Lines. GTSE is responsible for developing network strategies, architectures, designs, and standards across all core network infrastructure including global WAN/MAN/LAN, DNS/DHCP, data center networks, network security, remote access, Internet, voice, and physical network infrastructure. The group is also responsible for keeping the global network up to date as well as setting standards for the configuration of hardware/software, service providers, and architectures.
The key responsibilities of this position include development and management of Disney’s testing labs as well as network software & lifecycle tracks for network infrastructure. This involves proactively planning and testing software and hardware releases with an objective of maintaining superior levels of security, reliability, and performance of the global network.
The candidate must have strong fundamental networking skills plus the knowledge and experience to work on a variety of complex network related initiatives. As such, the candidate may potentially work on general networking projects in addition to lifecycle work.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the hardware and software lifecycle for Disney’s footprint of network devices (switches, routers, firewalls, and related systems).
  • Install hardware such as cables, hubs, routers, and wireless adaptors.
  • Assessment of EOL status against manufacturer provided lifecycle polices and conduct risk and criticality assessments of EOL components with suitable risk mitigation strategies.
  • Research and recommend next generation network technology, products, & services.
  • Manage technology vendors and assess vendor development/test strategies.
  • Meet with vendors to discuss product offerings; recommend new products and services to meet project requirements.
  • Consult peer groups in the development of project plans, hardware/software roadmaps, and refresh plans.
  • Conduct lab tests, proofs-of-concept, bug scrubs, and other technical evaluations to ensure that new technology fits into the network and performs as expected.
  • Work with vendors to identify upcoming versions of code; plan for and conduct testing and bug scrubs.
  • Remain current with technology advancements in order to apply holistic lifecycle and capacity planning.
  • Perform network troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose common network problems.
  • Develop standards, procedures, and other reference documentation to guide the various technology stakeholders throughout the company.
  • Participate in the development of network automation tools and a software-defined networking strategy.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 7+ years in an enterprise environment that operates 7x24 services to a multitude of customers and business units with a progression of responsibilities spanning operations, implementation, design, and architecture.
  • Technical leadership experience in a large, complex enterprise (e.g. at least 30+ sites in multiple countries, at least 10-15k users but preferably 50k+ users).
  • 5+ years’ WAN/MAN/LAN/Voice network design, configuration, evaluation, problem resolutionSkills:
  • Understanding of the lab environment and how to manage testing environments.
  • Understanding of multiple vendors networking/voice equipment product sets, components, and End of Life policies.
  • A successful candidate will have a balance of technical and non-technical skills. The candidate must have advanced data networking skills and experiences, both hands-on and theoretical. Other technical skills include wireless, voice, and security networking skills.
  • Working knowledge in networking and security technologies & protocols including: TCP/IP protocol suite, IPSEC, TLS, SSL, client and site-to-site VPNs, RADIUS, TACACS+ and X509 Certificate authentication.
  • Working knowledge of LAN/MAN/WAN topologies & platforms, routing protocols, current data center architectures, DNS/DHCP, IPAM, multicast, VRF, QoS, etc.
  • Basic programming skills in Python or other contemporary toolset/language.
Experience:
  • Architecting world-class, large-scale data networks for global enterprises that maximize security, performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Working with business units to rapidly develop and implement solutions.
  • Directly or indirectly leading teams of engineers in the implementation of complex technology.
  • Building and supporting enterprise LANs, MANs, WANs, VPNs, and remote access solutions in a variety of topologies.
  • Developing and communicating large-scale standards, procedures, and other reference documentation to guide technical teams throughout an enterprise.
  • Experience with multiple vendor switching, routing, wireless, and security products (i.e. not just Cisco).
  • Programming experience to simplify, automate, or orchestrate any network tasks.
Non-Technical Skills:
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders in highly matrixed environment.
  • Internal communication skills at all levels – Technicians to Directors: Able to understand requirements at a technical level and effectively communicate requirements, risk and cost in business terms.
  • External communication skills at all levels – Technicians to Directors: To be able to speak to vendors regarding product lifecycles, roadmaps, service requirement and maintenance contracts.
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to operate effectively in large, complex, matrix managed organizations with a flexible working environment (dealing with global regions / multiple time zones).
  • Ability to work in a highly visible fast paced environment both with and without supervision.
  • Positive, collaborative, supportive, problem-solving approach to working with others.
  • Self-starter with a commitment to achieving results.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One or more certifications in industry certifications such as A+, Network+, Security+, and ITIL.
  • One or more advanced certifications such as CISSP, Cisco CCIE, CSSLP, CCNA/CCNP or equivalent networking certifications or education.
  • And at least two manufacturer certifications in the areas of switching/routing, firewalls, IPS, load balancers, and other related network technology.

Required Education

  • 4-Year Degree in a STEM field or equivalent work experience

Preferred Education

  • Master’s degree in a STEM field (IT/IS, Mathematics, Decision Systems, Computer Science) or Strategy/Business Technology
