This Sales Manager plays a pivotal position within the Disney Publishing Group. Our business, managed through Hachette, is significant and diverse. It includes the independent bookstores, International, Books A Million, and Special Markets retail & wholesale (excluding subscription box services and custom and proprietary sales). Within Disney Publishing Group, the Hachette Liaison works daily on our business through Hachette including DPG’s sales, publicity, marketing and operations involvement. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal are a cornerstone of the skill set for success in this position.

This posting is a talent pool for upcoming roles within Consumer Products, Games & Publishing.

Responsibilities:

Independent Bookstores:
  • Work on Indy focus titles including recommendations on terms, corrugation, marketing and publicity

  • Work with the ABA to foster Disney Publishing Group’s image and competitive edge

  • Create bi-monthly newsletter for independent booksellers

  • Represent Disney Book Group at the Winter Institute and Children’s Institute

  • Develop and maintain a close working relationship with assigned retailers through Hachette and their distribution network

International :
  • Prepare the DPG international sales presentation after each sales conference

  • Liaise with the international sales management at Hachette with a focus on supplying sales reports that identify growth areas by country (territory) including specifics on title opportunities. This includes working to identify special trade paper editions for open markets

Special Markets:
  • Work closely with the Hachette special markets sales management, sales representatives and commission groups to match product opportunities to retailer(s), analyze account performance and find sales opportunities; including looking for new accounts and identify proprietary opportunities within this account base for referral to our proprietary and custom sales manager

Books A Million:
  • Set the priorities for selling Books A Million consistent with the overall goals of DPG’s sales initiatives and maintain a good working relationship with BAM’s senior management as well as approve coop plans for them

Additional tasks include:
  • Sales conferences and focus meetings; weekly Hachette business update meeting; interaction with the editorial, marketing, publicity and operations groups within Disney both New York City and Glendale, CA

  • Facilitate Hachette’s reading material for focus meetings and sales conference

  • Provide catalog input, Edelweiss, and Onyx feed approval

  • Work on the master schedule of meetings

  • Manage embargoed title information and approve title information flow to Hachette

Basic Qualifications:

  • Excellent MS Office suite skills (pivot tables and Vlook-up)

  • Minimum of five years’ experience in publishing preferably in sales management

  • Ability to prioritize, stay focused and keep a professional demeanor under stress

Preferred Education

  • Bachelor’s degree
