- This role is considered hybrid, which means the employee will work a portion of their time on-site from a Company designated location and the remainder of their time remotely.

Job Summary:

Publishing Controllership is responsible for the day-to-day operational and general ledger accounting for Disney Publishing Worldwide and its affiliates. The team oversees all aspects of financial reporting for Global Publishing (which includes vertical and licensing businesses), and assists both Segment and Corporate Controllership’s consolidation needs for required public financial filings for The Walt Disney Company. The team is also responsible for ensuring compliance with the company’s key controls. Publishing Controllership also partners with various stakeholders in Finance and Operations to analyze financial results.


  • Lead team of 10 and manage the day-to-day operational accounting & reporting for the vertical print and eBooks/audio business (Buena Vista Books, Inc. and National Geographic Partners, LLC)
  • Oversee all aspects of financial reporting for Global Publishing, including presenting P&L results and balance sheet analyses to senior executives in the business
  • Work with regional teams and prepare consolidated P&L, balance sheet, and reporting packages to support both Segment and Corporate Controllership’s financial reporting processes
  • Lead team and collaborate with various departments in the business and perform detailed analysis on significant accounting estimates and reserves (returns, obsolescence, etc.)
  • Provide analytical support to the Finance team for Annual Operating Plan and forecasts
  • Key contact for management audits, as well as legal and tax matters
  • Ensure all Minimum Control Standards are met on a quarterly basis
  • Drive efficiencies through continuous review and improvement of existing processes, including managing new system implementation projects
  • Support Controller on special projects
  • Provide ad-hoc analytical support and partner with business teams on white space business initiatives

Basic Qualifications:

  • 7-9 years relevant accounting experience preferred; minimum 6 years accounting experience plus 2 years of management experience
  • Must possess strong quantitative and analytical skills combined with solid business and financial acumen
  • Demonstrated understanding of internal controls, control environments, and accounting systems (SAP preferred)
  • Charismatic, dynamic leader and effective manager, who leads by example and will mentor a diverse team to meet Controllership objectives and to participate in Controllership projects and events
  • Strong relationship building skills and a highly professional “client service orientation”
  • Must be able to interact with and influence all levels of management within and outside Controllership
  • Must be an excellent team player who possesses solid interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Excellent communicator in both oral and written settings
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and resolve issues
  • High energy level; strong work ethic
  • Self-driven, independent thinker
  • Results-oriented, decisive
  • Demonstrated track record of identification of process

Preferred Qualifications:

Management experience in financial reporting, with understanding of vertical supply chain business

Required Education

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration

Preferred Education

MBA, CPA, or equivalent
