Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) is the master planning, creative development, design, engineering, production, project management, and research and development arm of Disney’s Parks and Resorts business segment. Representing more than 150 disciplines, its talented corps of Imagineers are responsible for the creation of Disney resorts, theme parks and attractions, hotels, water parks, real estate developments, regional entertainment venues, cruise ships and new media technology projects.

As a member of the Technical Show Quality Standards team, you will review the current state of shows at the Walt Disney World Resort and provide special effects (SPFX) or projection engineering activities to support WDW maintenance in the sustainment of the corresponding show equipment over the life of the attraction.

Representing more than 150 disciplines, its talented corps of Imagineers are responsible for the creation of Disney resorts, theme parks and attractions, hotels, water parks, real estate developments, regional entertainment venues, cruise ships and new media technology projects.

As a member of the Technical Show Quality Standards team, you will review the current state of shows at the Walt Disney World Resort and provide special effects (SPFX) or projection engineering activities to support WDW maintenance in the sustainment of the corresponding show equipment over the life of the attraction.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts attraction show reviews on a regular basis with other SQS team members
  • Reports out on the current condition of special effects and projections
  • Supports the restoration and sustainment of special effects, projection, and show control systems
  • Provides replacement solutions and designs for obsolete special effects and projection equipment.
  • Partner with Art Directors to ensure any restored special effects or projection meets the original creative intent
  • Promotion and champion of a safe work environment for Cast and Guest
  • Conduct Projector and SPFX condition Surveys
  • Participate in the SQS Buy-off Process, ability to buy-off figures un-supervised
  • Responsible for updating technical documentation as required
  • Provide subject matter expertise to WDI, Engineering Services and other performing divisions and park operators
  • Participates, as assigned and needed in Post Turnover Support (PTS) activities
  • Responsible for supporting Animators in the field as required
  • Required to work with interns and Associates and provide technical feedback as needed
  • Participates in the determination of detailed work plans and priorities

Basic Qualifications:

  • 15 years’ experience in theme park (or equivalent) projection or optics
  • Electro-mechanical assembly skills
  • Experience at producing a complete, maintainable and operable projection system
  • As a discipline lead, position will direct the work activity of others
  • Leads the effort of developing conceptual technical designs for SPFX & projection
  • Leads the initial and on-going project estimating and scheduling efforts
  • Leads project installation efforts
  • Influences and provides training and mentoring support for vendors and in-house resources as necessary to support current and future projects

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Provides an overall subject matter resource to projects, as needed.
  • Guides the initial and on-going project estimating and scheduling efforts for Projection or SPFX restoration projects
  • Works with Art Directors to develop appropriate solutions to SQS issues
  • Advance knowledge of key partners and their engagement points
  • Investigates and resolves matters of significance on behalf of WDI and Partners
  • Responsible for prioritization, execution, completion and reporting of Projector Condition Surveys
  • Provide detailed subject matter expertise as required for the technical design and production of SPFX and projection
  • Provide technical oversight to vendors that are contracted to install projection equipment
  • As needed, becomes the technical point of contact for specific vendors
  • Identifies issues and partners with others to develop mitigation plans towards long term resolution (i.e.; practices, process, guidelines, standards)
  • Compares alternatives solutions and determines the proper course of actions
  • Provides support to Attraction 101 downtimes as needed
  • Evaluate the work product of both inside production organizations as well as outside vendors
  • Working with Capitol projects to insure that SQS deliverables are intact and complete
  • Support the initial and on-going project estimating and scheduling for assigned IFP SPFX
  • Specify projectors, optics, and screens for projector replacements
  • Color balance and align multiple projectors
  • Design projector stands as needed

Required Education

  • B.S. or equivalent in optical, mechanical, or electronic engineering.
