Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products is the business unit within the Walt Disney Company responsible for developing and maintaining the online guest experiences of our theme parks, resorts and cruise line.

This role is for a back-end services engineer for our Search team, building out and supporting site search solutions for our biggest brands, helping millions of guests find the information they need to have the best Parks experience possible.

Work directly with other software engineers, web developers, QA engineers, and business partners to create and maintain high quality products that directly contribute to company goals and guest satisfaction. Work in our search platform and manage multiple applications within the Elastic stack such as Elasticsearch, Kibana, ML and APM with multi-language indices in a faceted search environment. Use your search expertise to help improve search features, result relevancy, and build additional use cases for the platform technology. Use your Java expertise to develop and maintain Spring based applications geared towards enhancing the search experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Be part of a strong development team implementing and maintaining site search capabilities across Parks websites
  • Develop high quality code adhering to engineering best practices including automated unit and integration testing, code reviews, and documentation
  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including
    • project plan task estimates
    • software architecture
    • use case and object modeling
    • detailed design documents
    • framework design and development
    • code development
    • performance testing and tuning
    • production maintenance

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS/BA degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Expert level skills with at least one enterprise search platform such as Elasticsearch, Solr, or Endeca
  • 7+ years of full software development lifecycle experience
  • 5+ years of Java development and object-oriented analysis and design
  • 5+ years with Internet technologies including RESTful web services
  • 5+ years with cloud technologies in AWS or Azure
  • Proficient in all aspects of programming and analysis including design patterns
  • Commercial code and release management tools (e.g. GIT, Jenkins)
  • Apache Tomcat
  • UNIX / Linux shell scripting
  • SQL and relational databases
  • Able to identify problems and opportunities and champion solutions
  • Ability to complete tasks on time and in budget within a climate of frequent change
  • Agile scrum development methodology
  • Strong communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Kotlin
  • Spring Framework
  • Snowflake
  • Machine learning, especially for specializations such as anomaly detection, marketing and audience segmentation, and NLP
  • Native iOS and/or Android development
