The Data Platforms & Engineering group is part of the Enterprise Technology organization. We are responsible for developing and managing the data platforms, data integrations and reporting and analytics solutions for The Walt Disney Company’s enterprise business data.

The Senior Software Engineer is a key engineering role in the Enterprise Technology organization, responsible for leading the design and development of a highly scalable and secure enterprise data solutions. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will use your deep coding, DevOps, and data skills to design, develop and test code that delivers new features and functionalities for our data platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Develop product specifications with attention to business requirements, system integrations, consistency, and reusability
  • Work closely with other Software Engineers, Systems Engineers, Business Architects, Product Owners, Project Management, and other technical and business stakeholders to understand the data, convert the requirements into functional and technical specifications and to plan, design, prototype, develop, test, deploy and support existing and new efficient solutions
  • Deliverables are typically large or highly complex software programs and systems
  • Has in depth knowledge of current programming language and technologies, writes code, completes programming, and may perform testing and debugging of solutions
  • Responsible for data engineering, data integration, and data modeling
  • Developing highly scalable, flexible, cost-effective, and secure enterprise data solutions
  • Design and developing data models for major data platforms (data warehouses, data lakes, master data management systems)
  • Work with Business Architects, Data Architects, and business stakeholders to understand the data, reporting and analytics needs of the business and convert the requirements into functional and technical specifications

Skills & Key Attributes

  • Technical proficiency with one or more of: Python, NodeJS, Java, Go
  • Experience with Software Design and development in a Cloud environment (Amazon Web Services / Azure)
  • Good understanding of data structures and algorithms
  • Strong background working with open-source technologies and cloud native engineering principles and patterns
  • Expertise in data modeling and performance optimization for major data platform technologies such as SAP HANA
  • Expertise with the full lifecycle of application development, including best practices of unit testing, code reviews, documentation
  • Expertise in cloud-based data platforms and working with cloud providers such as AWS, Microsoft Azure
  • Demonstrate considerable experience working with relational databases and expertise in SQL languages
  • Expertise in ETL and data integration
  • Expertise in all aspects of data management and design: data governance, data mastering, meta-data management, data taxonomies and ontologies
  • Preferred experience with API creation and consumption
  • Excellent technical problem solving and data analysis skills; Strong communication and presentation skills. Ability to communicate well to both technical and business audiences

Experience

  • 5+ years of software development experience preferred
  • 7+ year’s of data engineering experience
  • Experience in data engineering, ETL, data integration and data modeling with data-warehouses such as SAP HANA, BW/4 HANA, Snowflake
  • Experience developing data solutions in cloud platforms
  • Experience with programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, JavaScript, etc.)
  • Experience with BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Cognos, SAP Analytics Cloud preferred
  • Experience with data science, AI/ML and predictive modeling preferred
  • Experience with Finance and HR business domains preferred
  • Preferred experience working with SAP ECC and SAP S/4 HANA
  • Experience working in matrixed project teams including architects, developers, operations, PMs, business analysts, and vendor partners
  • Proven ability to build and motivate a team to achieve well-communicated expectations
  • Experience with Security and Compliance
  • Proven track record of execution--driving results and meeting project commitments
