Disney Streaming encompasses the teams leading the Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+, and Star+ streaming applications and services within the Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution group. Disney Streaming’s Client Application Software Engineering team is seeking a VP, Software Engineering for Apple and Android. You will lead the client engineering team building Disney+, Hulu, Star+, and ESPN+ for iOS (iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and Apple Watch) and Android (phones, tablets, Android TV, AOSP, and Amazon FireTV and Fire Tablet). The right person for this role will be a hands-on technical executive who has experience designing and shipping mobile and 10-foot experiences at global scale with hundreds of millions of users.   • Strategic and tactical hands on technology executive role leading the design, development, and evolution of the Apple (Swift and Objective-C) and Android (Kotlin and Java) client applications that power the Disney+, Star+, Hulu, and ESPN+ platform.
  • Coordinate development of feature-rich native iOS/tvOS applications for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Apple TV and native Android applications for Android Phone, Tablet, Android TV, AOSP, Android TV Operator Tier, and Amazon FireTV and Fire Tablet
  • Lead and mentor a team of Directors, Engineering Managers, and Individual Contributors with a proficiency in Apple and Android platforms
  • Identify areas for growth within the team processes and develop new systems for collaboration
  • Mentor team to improve technical ability and build relationships within and outside the organization
  • Work with Technical Project Managers to drive development schedules based on product roadmaps
  • Ability to present technical decisions and risks to senior leadership

Basic Qualifications:

  • Experience integrating with backend systems, web services, and third-party softwares
  • Growth mindset towards learning, experience mentoring, and a desire to give and receive feedback
  • Experience leading a team, including delegating responsibility and balancing high-reaching priorities
  • Experience composing and presenting thoughtful and implementable solutions to a variety of collaborators (technical and non-technical)
  • 10+ years of experience with Apple Frameworks, and the Xcode ecosystem
  • 10+ years of experience knowledge software engineering experience with Java or Kotlin including design partners (MVC/MVP/MVVM/MVI), reactive programming (RxJava), and dependency injection (Dagger or similar) ● Familiarity with video streaming technologies including HLS, PlayReady DRM, VOD, Event, and Live Linear content
  • Experience with Video playback (ExoPlayer/MediaCodec and AVFoundation)
  • Strong understanding of multi-tier architectures, and OO design patterns and concepts.
  • Must demonstrate proven organization and communication skills.

Required Education

BS Computer Science or related technical field or its equivalent
