Payroll Officer

Job Summary:

The Payroll Officer is required to perform the payroll processing and related functions for Disney and ESPN entities in Australia and New Zealand in a timely, professional and accurate manner.

Responsibilities:

Payroll management
  • Processing end to end monthly payroll for 250 + staff in Australia and New Zealand ensuring all employees are paid in a timely manner
  • Coordinate with key stakeholders to manage the monthly schedule
  • Liaise with Human Resources (HR) to set up new employees, as well as process and manage all monthly payroll changes and process out of cycle payments
  • Update employee master file changes in payroll system
  • Communicate all monthly exceptions to outsourced payroll provider
  • Check and reconcile all payroll reports before sending to HR and Finance for approval
  • Monitor the payroll process, provide feedback and recommend/implement process improvements
  • Maintain accurate and timely filing and data collection for all employees and all payroll information, including extractions from ADP Payforce and other third party systems as relevant
  • Provide ad hoc quotes for terminations/redundancies and ensure consistency and accuracy, including manual calculations where required
  • Address payroll queries from employees/managers/HR and respond in a timely manner
  • Monitor and administer government paid parental leave
  • Payroll adjustment calculations for payments out of cycle (OOC)
  • Remit superannuation on a regular basis and in timely manner
  • Create, maintain and exit members within superannuation system
  • Carry out annual processes impacting payroll including merit increases, incentive payments, and reportable fringe benefits
  • Provide advice and ensure consistency and accuracy of all payments, in line with relevant legislation, tax requirements and company policy

Payroll/Finance administration
  • Stay up to date with relevant legislation in Australia and New Zealand to ensure statutory compliance • Key contact for payroll related controls testing with external auditors
  • Prepare accounting journal entries for posting into financials system
  • Coordinate periodical leave reports and audits
  • Provide support for forecasting process
  • Assist with head count reporting and reconciliations
  • Complete and/or provide data for government surveys
  • Support preparation of annual returns for payroll tax and workcover
  • Maintain up to date documentation on payroll processes
  • Validate and maintain data across multiple systems
  • Other administrative tasks to support the team including (but not limited to) processing of incoming cheques
  • Support new initiatives and projects as required by the business
  • Perform ad hoc assignments as directed by the Senior Manager-Accounting and Reporting

Basic Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years of experience in a similarly sized, end to end payroll position
  • Experience using ADP Payforce or similar large payroll software
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent customer service and stakeholder management skills
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel
  • A high level of numerical reasoning
  • Demonstrated strong analytical skills
  • Utmost reliability, professionalism, confidentiality and discretion in handling sensitive payroll information
  • Sound knowledge of Australian PAYG, superannuation and other relevant state and federal legislation
  • Confident, self-motivated and can work independently
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • High level of interpersonal skills
  • Highly flexible and adaptable
  • A strong team player who contributes to an environment that embraces collaboration and innovation

Preferred Education

  • Completion of payroll related qualification or courses is an advantage
