Director, Technical Program Management (Lifecycle Engineering)

Disney Streaming encompasses the teams leading the Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+, and Star+ streaming services within Disney’s Media & Entertainment Distribution (DMED) segment. The Lifecycle Engineering Organization creates scalable foundations and platforms to power messaging and in-app experiences across the consumer lifecycle on our various offerings spanning Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+, STAR+ and Bundles.  

We are hiring a Director, Technical Program Management to lead the Technical Program Management function for the Organization.  In this role, you will lead a team of technical program managers and collaborate with the Lifecycle SVP, other leaders of the Lifecycle organization and multiple engineering teams to deliver high-quality experiences in line with our highly recognizable brands. Responsibilities:

  • Manage, coach and hire Technical Program Managers (TPMs), providing them with regular feedback and fostering a culture that enables their learning, professional development and growth.

  • Partner with the team to develop, optimize and execute on the processes and workflows used by the Lifecycle organization for successful delivery and communication of program progress/delivery risk for reporting at various levels of executive leadership.

  • Partner with product and engineering leadership to create and maintain roadmaps that communicate the strategic vision and prioritize engineering focus

  • Lead TPMs across within the Lifecycle organization to ensure the delivery of projects sourced from engineering, product, and business stakeholders.

  • Partner with engineering and program stakeholders to coordinate delivery of complex cross-functional large-scale initiatives.

  • Use knowledge of the overall architecture and workflow of the teams to help identify dependencies, potential risks, derive estimates, and keep teams accountable to initiative milestones

 

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of previous experience as a program manager or in a similar role

  • Experience planning and delivering complex features and projects

  • Expertise in Agile Project Management methods

  • Experience building and managing cross-functional teams

  • Understanding of the software development life cycle, common software concepts and committed to operational excellence

  • Technical curiosity and interest in learning system architecture to better understand project dependencies and delivery complexity

  • Ability to communicate with a diverse set of technical and non-technical partners

  • Demonstrated attention to detail 

  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal

 

Extra Credit:

  • Experience shipping entertainment/streaming media applications/platforms

  • Experience with program management tools like Airtable, Confluence, JIRA

  • Software engineering experience
