Job Summary:

The Lifecycle Engineering Organization builds platforms and experiences that allow us to connect with our customers. We are building a scalable messaging system that will message hundreds of millions of customers  per day for all of our streaming services (Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+, STAR+) across multiple channels (email, push, in-app, and others).

We are hiring a foundational Principal Software Engineer, Testing who can create sustainable frameworks and implement test automation systems as we build our platform from the ground up. This includes end-to-end, integration, regression, and performance tests. We also need to find ways of efficiently incorporating these tests into our developer workflows to ensure they are assisting our teams as easily and early as possible (facilitating continuous deployment).

Collectively, our organization is full stack, crafting everything from GUI applications that run campaigns, backend systems that process events and messages at significant scale, and integration with a collection of end-user channels that include in-app messaging.

In this role you will collaborate with Engineering and Data Services to improve the quality and velocity with which we build our messaging engine.   • Design and build automated test solutions with multiple teams for a variety of services

  • Work closely with Senior Engineers to improve system quality and gain efficiencies for our organization

  • Help in driving our org towards a vision and understanding of better software quality plus the experience to realize it

  • Responsible for testing through the lifecycle of a project, including test case development, execution, verification, and reporting

  • Good judgment around when and how to introduce mock data into the test automation flow

  • Support and guide other team members on testing best practices, incorporating testing early into design, and developing expanded test cases that use your test automation framework(s)

  • Provide the team with risk assessments and recommendations for test prioritization

  • Mentor and train other Test Engineers as the team grows

  • Fosters team culture of transparency, ownership, and collaboration

Basic Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related degree, or equivalent work experience

  • Experience with major cloud providers (Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Services, or other)

  • Experience testing messaging/communications applications (email, push, and/or in-app for example)

  • Experience testing systems that have high throughput, are highly available, and scale dynamically

  • Understanding of core testing principles and being able to communicate about these to the organization

  • Experience working collaboratively across development, product, marketing, and/or similar teams

  • Experience using design tools for test development purposes (diagrams, charts, and test-automation tools)

  • Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Primary experience testing backend systems as well as full stack / frontend experience (web) is valuable

  • Experience with AB testing / experimentation platforms

  • Experience integrating with continuous integration services

  • Knowledge of standard processes for logging and collecting metrics

  • Experience working with localization or internationalization

The hiring range for this position in California is $180,646 to $242,330 per year and in New York is $189,256 to $253,880 per year and in Washington is $189,256 to $253,880 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
