Hulu is a premium streaming service that offers premium originals, current season TV, a massive library of hit series and movies, and live television. Our combined Disney and Hulu team is looking for hardworking team players to join the Media Engineering team, who will thrive upon the legacy of Disney and Hulu, embrace unconventional thinking, and who are passionate about contributing to The Walt Disney Company’s direct-to-consumer (DTC) experience through strategic hard work and determination.

The Provisioning team orchestrates encoders, packagers and other resources that stream hundreds of live events and channels every day. We are constantly handling new challenges, striving for 100% uptime and scaling to meet the expectations of millions of viewers.

Our team is looking to add a Senior Software Engineer to our team who possesses a wide range of technical knowledge. This position will be working primarily on the back end with some front end of our applications that support multiple internal and external partners.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with a team of engineers building software in a collaborative development process.
  • Collaborate closely with technical leads and other team members to identify and complete development assignments.
  • Participate in the design process of new features and enhancements to the software platform.
  • Diagnose issues, evaluate and recommend the best resolution, and execute against that plan.
  • Handle on call emergencies including off hours and weekends as necessary.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience working as a developer within complex systems development environments
  • Experience with Java/J2EE, XML, JSON Messaging, REST APIs and Relational databases
  • Experience with AWS Architecture (Lambda, SNS/SQS Messaging, API gateway, S3, ECS)
  • Experience working with Continuous Integration and Deployment tools - e.g., Maven, Jenkins 2, Ansible, GITHUB, Kubernetes, Rancher, Docker
  • Experience in database design and writing SQL queries
  • Willingness to “think-outside-of-the-box” to resolve project challenges and improve development processes/systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Spring/Spring-Boot frameworks
  • Experience with DB administration and Amazon RDS
  • Experience in video streaming and playback domain such as ABR, HLS, CDN, TCP/IP, HTTP/2, etc.
  • Experience implementing web user interfaces using front-end frameworks (VueJS, React, Angular, etc.)
  • Modern web/app development technologies (JavaScript, SASS/SCSS, Node.js, Grunt, Bower, Webpack)
  • Comfortable with Unix/Linux OS via command line

Required Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field or equivalent experience
