Job Summary:

The Lead Software Engineer will join the newly formed Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team in
the Media Engineering organization. This is a growth opportunity and you will help create the
vision and charter for this team. You will be the steward for the media pipeline health and
stability, enabling us to quickly deliver our next gen platform capabilities that drive all Disney
Streaming applications. You will be responsible for assessing, testing, tracking, predicting and
reporting all related aspects of a suite of production applications from a scalability,
performance, responsiveness, capacity and availability perspective.

We are searching for someone who brings fresh ideas, demonstrates a unique and informed
viewpoint, and enjoys collaborating with a cross-functional team to develop real-world
solutions and positive user experiences at every interaction.

Responsibilities:

  • Gather and analyze metrics from systems and applications across the media pipeline and provide insights to senior engineering and product stakeholders.

  • Measure and optimize system performance, with an eye toward pushing our capabilities forward, getting ahead of customer needs, and innovating to continually improve.

  • Partner with development teams to improve services through rigorous testing and release procedures.

  • Partner with QA and infrastructure among other enterprise teams to increase the productivity of engineers.

  • Develop tools and systems to automate the identification, analysis, and remediation of application events, infrastructure issues, or requests.

  • Work cross-functionally with other teams to surface common pain points, architect solutions, establish conventions, and evangelize application development and operations best practices.

  • Establish and maintain Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for the overall health of the media pipeline and build tools to exercise and evaluate if these KPI’s are being met.

  • Provide operational support for multiple large distributed software applications

  • Balance feature development speed and reliability with well-defined service level objectives

Basic Qualifications:

  • 7+ years software development with hands-on experiences as System Administrator / Application Engineer / DevOps or SRE role

  • Ability to program (structured and OO) with one or more high level languages, such as Python, Java, C/C++, Ruby, and JavaScript

  • Experience with Cloud and AWS products and services (EKS, S3, Lambda, DyanmoDB, Terraform, etc.)

  • A proactive approach to spotting problems, areas for improvement, and performance bottlenecks

  • Naturally lead by example and inspire your team to do great things

  • A deep appreciation of improving the engineering experience and delivering great solutions

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with video processing pipeline & streaming technology.

Preferred Education

Bachelor’s Degree in CS or a related technical field or equivalent relevant experience

Additional Information:

This role can be remote or based in Santa Monica, CA, NYC, Or Seattle, WA.
