Job Summary:

Disney Streaming is looking for a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer to join the Operational Resiliency Engineering team.

Operations Resiliency Engineers bridge the gap between Engineering and Operations. They use effective collaboration to break down communication barriers between partner teams, listen to and understand requirements, and deliver solutions through supporting APIs, UIs, Platforms, and real-time data processing pipelines.

Operational Resiliency Engineers partner with teams to identify and address gaps in cross-team processes and tools that are essential to support operational maturity, agility, and resiliency. OREs use full-stack engineering toolsets, a clear understanding of the problem statement, and employ constant partner feedback to execute a fast-paced and iterative development process. OREs are comfortable being dropped into unfamiliar codebases, APIs, technologies, and workflows, quickly achieving situational awareness. OREs build value for teams quickly, saving them time and energy, allowing them to focus on their critical responsibilities. Operational Resiliency Engineers improve signal-to-noise ratio of monitoring, alerting, and auto-mitigation systems through a deep relationship with operational processes - from instrumentation to deployment and runtime, all the way to incident management and resolution.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with operations teams cross-organizationally to identify operational pain points and maximize efficiency, eliminate repetitive, manual work and enhance overall operational maturity

  • Build and maintain cross-org tooling to connect and track systems, services and networks

  • Build automations to optimize operational efficiency

  • Devise UX, data visualizations and dashboards that organize, frame and communicate data in a way that empowers teams in analysis, reporting, planning and incident management

  • Work with APIs to aggregate data for storage, transformation, and transfer

  • Maintain, update, and expand current toolset

  • Partner with service owners to improve telemetry and ensure preventative and remedial solutions are operational for a non-engineering workforce

Qualifications

  • Programming languages: Object-oriented, Functional, Declarative, Interpreted, Compiled, Scripted

  • Experience with Ruby, Python, or JavaScript

  • UX, Data Visualization and Information Architecture

  • Database: MySQL, DynamoDB, Redis, Kafka, Kinesis, Avro

  • Modern Frontend Development (JS, React, HTML, CSS, SCSS...)

  • Software Reliability and Resiliency Practices: Circuit Breaker & Bulkhead pattern, background processing and failure handling, inter-region fallbacks/failovers, best-case/worst-case/average-case performance

  • Application Runtime and Deployment

  • CI/CD:  Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins/Spinnaker

  • Incident, Problem, and Change Management (familiarity with ITIL, runbooks, or a background in Operations is a major plus)
