Job Summary

The Walt Disney Company Korea is seeking an experienced media lawyer to join the South Korea Legal team to provide expert, practical and commercial legal advice in relation to all aspects of the media distribution arm of The Walt Disney Company (Korea) LLC.

This is a part-time, fixed-term contract position requiring a commitment of minimum 20 hours per week (negotiable to full-time), with a contractual duration of one year.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal support as necessary for the expansion and growth of Disney’s businesses in Korea, particularly in the areas of media Content Distribution and Direct to Consumer businesses.

  • Advise Disney’s business in various areas of law, including IP, consumer law, advertising & sponsorship, corporate and regulatory, privacy, IT, facilities, brand management and marketing.

  • Prepare, draft, negotiate, review and advise a wide variety of agreements and other documents related to Disney’s entertainment business, including marketing materials and services contracts.

  • As required, assist in developing, updating and implementing compliance and regulatory policies, best practice guidelines for and training of Disney’s relevant business and creative teams, including liaising with Disney’s regional and wider international Legal Departments and business executives as required to advise on South Korean law, regulations and industry practices.

  • Coordinate with other members of Disney’s Legal Department to provide legal support and advice for Asia-Pacific and/or global projects.

  • Assist in delegating to, supervising and mentoring South Korea Legal Department paralegal, where required.

Qualifications:

  • LLB, LLM, JD, or equivalent qualification.

  • Preference for a qualified lawyer in Korea with fluency in both written and spoken English, OR a qualified lawyer in an English-speaking jurisdiction with bilingual proficiency in English and Korean and a strong understanding of Korean law.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a qualified lawyer in a law firm or in-house legal department, preferably in the entertainment industry

  • Exceptional technical skills in legal drafting and analysis, particularly in non-litigious intellectual property law.

  • Experience with legal issues related to the exploitation of audio-visual content and intellectual property across various formats and business models is essential.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills, demonstrating the ability to handle and prioritize multiple high-priority projects of diverse nature.

  • High personal credibility, authenticity, and the capability to engage effectively with business partners at all levels.

  • Passion for television and streaming content, coupled with an awareness of and familiarity with business and legal developments impacting the Korean entertainment industry.

  • Strategic thinking ability, with the capacity to articulate legal and commercial risks and communicate persuasively to contribute to strategic decisions made by senior lawyers and business clients.

  • Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of local and regional teams.
