JOB DESCRIPTION

The Master Control Supervisor is responsible for performing the duties of overseeing operations for the multi-channel control point for Disney DTCI, FOX Sports Regional and Disaster Recovery for cable networks.  The Master Control Supervisor must be proficient in the use of all broadcast equipment and technology within assigned operating areas to execute live and pre-recorded programming and commercials as scheduled. The Master Control Supervisor will understand and execute these items and more, including but not limited to: protocols for live programs, commercial and program log documentation, regional feeds and market protection procedures, intercom communication procedures and any required documentation.

Under limited supervision, this position is responsible for supervising and mentoring assigned Master Control Operators and overseeing day to day master control operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Carries out the business and operational intent of the department.
  • Coordinates operational items with regional network program directors, producers, Media Management, Traffic and out-of-house affiliates to include disaster recovery
  • Supervise operations with the intent of quality service to our client networks, advertisers and viewers
  • Conducts line supervisory functions for On-Air Operations. Accomplished by but not limited to: overseeing playlists, routing, market switching, technical problems, staffing, investigating on-air problems
  • Performs supervisory administrative functions for assigned line personnel. Accomplished by but not limited to: documenting/communicating performance, personnel record keeping, coaching, disciplinary functions, timecards.
  • Supervises and coaches operators, who may not be their direct reports.
  • Research, resolve and provide feedback on operational issues.
  • Collaborates with mid-level management to conduct advanced disciplinary action.
  • Communicates all pertinent information during On Air Disruptions (OAD).
  • Tracks and communicates operator performance regularly for annual reviews.
  • Assists with other leadership responsibilities and special projects as assigned.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with all broadcast equipment, workflows and procedures
  • Understand and follow SOP’s for disaster recovery     
  • Understand and follow SOP’s for various Networks, high profile, live events, etc.
  • Supervisors source routing and market switching.
  • Consistently monitor On Air by ensuring that database information and media content are accurate which may include but not limited to:
    • SOM/EOM of segments
    • Audio and Video specifications
    • Secondary events (DTMF,GPI,SCTE104 and graphic insertion)
    • Content
    • Closed Captioning
    • Active Format Descriptor
  • Monitor equipment for performance / device failures.
  • Verify all timing issues for all media play out to air.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalency.
  • Knowledge of video production and master control automation switching equipment. VTR’s, server playout, automation systems and other broadcast technology.
  • Knowledge in audio and video
  • Complete understanding of Master Control functions
  • A minimum of five plus years, experience in television broadcast master control is necessary. One to two years supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Good oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to work under stress and perform as part of a team.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Strong math skills
  • Computer knowledge including Windows, Microsoft Office suite
  • Flexibility to work nights, holidays and weekends, this is a 24/7/365 operation

Preferred:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Business, Communications, Television, Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
  • Good organizational and project management skills are necessary.
