The mission of the Systems Engineering team at The Woodlands Network Center is to provide systems design and implementation services to the business for local projects in addition to providing 24-hour technical support within the facility.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the creative and innovative design and application of general IT industry products and solutions in a broadcast and media environment.  As a member of the Systems Engineering team, the candidate will serve as a Tier 3 resource for and provide mentorship within the team.

The successful candidate must have excellent client service skills, superior communication skills, significant IT experience as well as an ability to learn broadcast and media systems.

Responsibilities:

Systems Administration

  • As directed, manage and monitor physical and virtual server and storage infrastructure, provide Tier 3 troubleshooting support, and ensure documentation is current and accurate.
  • Performs activities required to plan, deploy, manage, support, and scale a mission-critical 24×7 compute and storage infrastructure in a rapidly expanding, broadcast and media environment.

Engineering

  • Works with senior management in recommending, designing and implementing system enhancements, including software and hardware updates that will improve performance, reliability, and scalability of one or more of the core facility systems.
  • Regularly meets and consults with Disney DTCI systems security teams.  Keeps the Systems Engineering team up-to-date on systems security policy and ensures compliance at The Woodlands Network Center
  • Performs compute and storage capacity and resource planning.
  • Resource for Systems Engineering team for identification and resolution of severe and/or chronic system issues.
  • Identifies and recommends systems improvements, including cost/benefit analysis, to meet changing business requirements.
  • Creates and maintains procedural, training, and logical/physical/architectural systems documentation. Coaches engineering staff to ensure systems knowledge transfer to develop emerging skillsets; mentors this group also to develop analytical thinking for problem diagnosis/root cause analysis.

Architecture

  • Collaborates on defining, designing, and implementing changes for expansion, continuous improvement and evolution of compute and storage system solutions.
  • Provides subject-matter expertise regarding compute and storage systems planning, technical architectures, models and standards.
  • Ensures sound infrastructure recommendations best facilitate ongoing company technology projects; shapes solutions through early and active involvement in project and product lifecycles.

Project Management

  • Manages compute and storage infrastructure projects (and assigned resources when necessary) within the scope of the Systems Engineering team; manages vendors to meet project requirements and deadlines and prioritize issue resolution.
  • Manages compute and storage hardware installation, configuration, and maintenance, including coordination of project team resources.
  • Manages vendors and holds them accountable to contractual SLA’s and obligations.

Communication

  • Clearly and consistently communicate with Engineering and Operations teams to establish and maintain system requirements and performance criteria; collaborate with these teams to ensure regular performance optimization and issue resolution.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an applicable engineering field.
  • Demonstrated 8+ years in enterprise class compute and storage engineering experience in production environments.
  • Advanced certification(s) from industry leaders in compute and storage technology - virtual and physical.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with customers, vendors, and service providers.  Excellent client service skills are essential to the position.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in administering Windows Server operating systems and supporting infrastructure.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in administering VMware Enterprise environments
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in administering enterprise class storage systems.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, while maintaining a business level view towards resolution.  Must be able to troubleshoot complex multi-vendor system issues.
  • Ability to stay up to date on current technologies and recent developments in relevant technologies, and to evaluate new technologies and promote the benefits associated with their adoption.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and excellent follow-through on assigned projects.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as required to meet project deadlines or to resolve critical support issues.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Microsoft MCSE and Cisco CCNA and VMware VCP are highly desirable.
  • Microsoft MCSE with a technology specialization
  • NetApp storage administration certification
  • Experience with VMware vSphere 6.5 & 6.7, NSX and VSAN
  • Experience with NetApp, Isilon and LTO storage
  • Experience with Cisco UCS and HP server platforms
  • Experience with Microsoft Active Directory and Domain Policy administration
  • Experience and certification with Cisco and Arista network switches and routers
  • Understanding of the broadcast and media industry business and operations
  • Understanding of systems automation using Microsoft Visual Studio, Windows Scripting & Python Scripting.
  • Installation and support experience with Microsoft SQL Database systems, as well as SQL query language and scripting.
  • Experience in broadcast automation and virtual master control.
  • Experience with Media Asset Management Systems
  • Experience with file-based workflow to include workflow engines, transcoders and automated media file qc systems.
