Job Summary:

The Manager/Assistant Manager is to lead both primary (customized) and secondary (desk) research projects and provide market trends and insights into consumer behavior across a wide range of areas, from general lifestyle to spending to digital media consumption, with an aim of helping the company and its various lines of business achieve their business objectives and better position themselves among target consumers in Japan.

Responsibilities:

- Design and conduct consumer and ask research to provide internal and external research users with emerging consumer trends and insights, particularly in the digital area, proactively
- Manage all phases of research, with the following day-to-day responsibilities:
-Take brief, develop project plans and brief research agencies
-Monitor fieldwork and provide progress updates
-Review deliverables (including questionnaires/discussion guides and reports) from research agencies and work closely with them to make sure all deliverables meet the project objectives and requirements
-Present research findings to research users
- Analyze and interpret quantitative and qualitative research findings and provide insightful reports and presentations with compelling storylines and points of vies (as apposed to just data and information) to inform business decisions
- Work closely with the global research team on global research projects and provide on-the-ground support in project implementation
- Collect secondary data from various sources to support business and strategy planning as and when required

Basic Qualifications:

Experience
- More than 8 years of solid quantitative and qualitative research experience gained from research agencies and/or client companies
- Comprehensive experience in market research project management, including questionnaire/discussion guide design, sampling, and fieldwork and agency management
- Experienced in presenting research results to senior executives in Japan/English
-Experienced in conducting/facilitating strategy development workshops for senior executives (preferred but not a must)

Knowledge
- Good knowledge of different qualitative (e.g. focus groups, in-depth interviews, ethnography) and quantitative (e.g. online) approaches and sampling methods
- Good understanding of the media/entertainment industry (highly preferred but not a must)
- Exposure to children's products and/or children's consumer behavior (preferred but not a must)
- Good understanding of consumer market and culture in Japan

Core Skills
- Ability to design and execute quantitative and qualitative research projects independently from start to finish
- Excellent data analysis and interpretation skillets identify and communicate business implications to top management
- Strategic thinking and understanding of how to turn research data into succinct and strategic intelligence
- Good understanding of strategies vs tactics
- Fluent in both spoken and written English (if native Japanese)
- Fluent Japanese (if not native Japanese)
- Outstanding communicative expertise at all levels


Preferred Qualifications:

- Proven cross cultural understanding and awareness
- A team player

Preferred Education

- At least a bachelor degree in Business Management, Marketing, Psychology, Advertising, Communications, Social Science, or Statistics
- Overseas educated preferred
