- Provide legal support as necessary for the expansion and growth of Disney’s businesses in Japan in general, and in particular with regard to issues impacting those businesses in the Media segments.
- Draft, review, interpret, and administer legal instruments.
- Advise Disney Japan business staff members on legal and regulatory concerns/issues affecting business in Japan.
- Coordinate with other members of Disney’s Legal Department to provide legal support and advice to businesses in Japan (both domestic and international).
- Legal research.
- Prepare memoranda and correspondence.
- Negotiate with counterparties to agreements relating to Disney businesses in Japan.
- English-Japanese translation.
Basic Qualifications:Professional Attributes:
- Solid experience and understanding in issues concerning Japanese corporate/commercial law and Japanese intellectual property law, particularly Japanese civil code, commercial law and intellectual property law.
- Keen analytical insight and strong legal capability.
- Understanding of the legal and business customs and practices of a US-based multinational enterprise.
- Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects.
- Familiarity and experience with business practices of the Japanese entertainment industry is plus but not requisite.
- Admitted to practice law in Japan or an English-speaking jurisdiction is a plus.
- A minimum of 3 years of legal experience in law firm or multinational corporate legal department, focused on corporate/commercial and IP practice.
Any Other Requirements (e.g., language):
- Native Japanese language ability in negotiating, drafting and reading.
- Fluent written and spoken English.
- Excellent writing and drafting skills in Japanese and English
- J.D., LL.B., LL.M., or equivalent
