As an Associate Designer, you will make corrections to design files, redesigning book files to templates provided by printers, troubleshooting files for printer errors before preflighting, and packaging for release. The associate designer will also work with the senior art team to create fresh, exciting designs for National Geographic Kids series titles. You will take notes during creative review meetings, making PowerPoint slides for presentations in the style of Nat Geo Kids brand, and laying out and packaging files for Art and Photo Pools. You will report into the Director, Art and Design, Disney Book Group.


You will:

  • Release clean, ready-to-print files ensuring files are technically sound
  • Review files for accuracy to prevent errors and inconsistencies that could result in monetary loss and how book is perceived in the market.
  • Rework design files so they are to template and match specs provided by printers
  • Work with production editorial to correct and release all reprints for National Geographic Kids books.
  • Capture and distribute notes at creative reviews
  • Create files for promotional, sales and marketing requests for materials from already design book files
  • Establish an organizational process for keeping marketing files updated and communicating design adjustments to interested parties.
  • Assist designers to design interiors and covers for series and identify production problems with new design proposals
  • Design and organize images for Art and Photo Pools.
  • Assist Design Director in maintaining assets for style guides, designing, and producing visually appealing slides for presentations, creating templates for book series, and other design-related projects.

You will have:

  • 1+ years of related experience in print design
  • Knowledge of printing processes, production, and techniques
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically with page layout and color builds.
  • Ability to understand templates and translate millimeters to inches
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Graphic Design, Journalism or related field is preferred
