The Associate Manager, Channel Social & Digital will lead digital/social marketing campaigns for some of National Geographic’s priority (non-Tentpole) television shows, documentary films, and brand initiatives. Working with a Digital Director, they will craft a strategy for each campaign, develop creative elements, and oversee the implementation of all aspects of the campaigns. The Associate Manager will act as the soup-to-nuts leader for day-to-day efforts on their campaigns.

Working with counterparts in Marketing (including task forces) the Associate Manager will be responsible for developing promotional plans for digital/social, ensuring that what we’re doing is part of a cohesive strategy, and also one that will resonate with National Geographic’s TV digital/social audience and drive viewership.

They’ll lead the process of developing all marketing creative for digital/social. The Associate Manager will lead brainstorms and ideation, decide which elements to create, and commission all the work from internal and external sources. They’ll then take the lead Producer role in the creation of digital/social creative, including research and writing, reviewing and giving creative and strategic feedback, and securing approvals. The Associate Manager will be responsible for hitting deadlines and creating best-in-class digital creative.

The Associate Manager will also lead the execution of their campaigns, working with the Community Coordinator to ensure all content gets published. They’ll also project manage their campaigns: sharing content and collaborating with partners, building toolkits, creating recaps and presentations, and doing reporting and optimization.

The role of the Associate Manager, Channel Social & Digital will not be limited to just their campaigns – the position will also be expected to contribute new ideas on a variety of team projects. This person will be an expert on all things digital and will offer insight on how to make them actionable to National Geographic TV.


Create Strategic Promotional Plans:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the company to identify clear goals and translate those goals into a strategic approach for digital.
  • Lead ideation process, drawing from their own creative inspiration and sourcing ideas from internal brainstorms, external sources like Vendors, or partners like Production Companies, EPs, etc.
  • Identify the most effective tactics to execute those strategies, often working within the constraints of limited budgets, time, and resources.
  • Share and collaborate on those plans with key stakeholders, securing approvals and garnering input from critical sources.
  • Create presentations/documents for plans.
  • Along with Creative Development, creation of a strong strategic plan is critical to a successful and integrated campaign. These are measured by ratings, engagement, views, buzz, etc. depending on the project. Includes healthy activity on social media accounts.

Develop Great Creative:

  • Lead pre-production on digital elements, including researching and fact-checking, scripting, or storyboarding as needed.
  • Assigns work, typically to internal editors and designers. Sources vendors as needed.
  • Manages and works within budgets for their projects.
  • Occasional field production work, acting as Producer on digital shoots. (Includes interacting with/directing talent, and managing shooters, etc.)
  • Gives creative feedback throughout projects.
  • Responsible for securing approvals from the appropriate parties, per campaign.
  • Along with good Strategies, strong creative is also critical to a successful and integrated campaign. These are measured by ratings, engagement, views, buzz, etc. depending on the project. Includes healthy activity on social media accounts.

Campaign Management:

  • Responsible for asset management of their campaigns, ensuring we’re getting all our materials in the right specs and delivered on time.
  • Works alongside Project Management team to ensure delivery to International teams.
  • Leads collaboration and communication from a digital/social perspective to other teams. Gives updates in meetings, shares information on an ongoing basis with key stakeholders, and incorporates feedback and new ideas into our plans.
  • Creates toolkits, best practices, and other sharing documents for talent and producers.
  • Works alongside Community Coordinator to get all creative assets published to their respective accounts. Approves all copy (written by Coordinator) for their campaigns
  • Responsible for reporting on their campaign, including ongoing optimization and post-campaign recapping.
  • Does all of the above on tight deadlines.
  • Effective campaign management ensures that the great plans and fantastic creative gets shared with partners and published publicly in a timely fashion, to everyone’s satisfaction.


  • At least 5 years of professional experience in marketing in a creative capacity. This should include digital experience.
  • Proficient in English.
  • Should have strong strategic/logic skills in order to make informed decisions based on data and insights.
  • Expert knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, etc.) and desire to keep learning as technology and tools continue to develop. Microsoft Office Suite. Useful to know creative tools: Adobe Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects, etc.
  • This is ultimately a creative role, so having strong creative skills (writing, editing, design, etc.) is crucial.
  • Strong organizational (project management) and interpersonal skills are needed.
  • Understanding of the entertainment business and television is strongly preferred.
