Disney Legal is seeking a highly qualified Counsel with significant experience in FCC regulatory matters to join the ABC Legal, News & Regulation team and work on a variety of such matters as they relate to the ABC owned television stations and the ABC Television Network.
The ABC Legal, News & Regulation team provides legal advice and support to ABC News, the ABC owned television stations, ABC local and network political advertising sales, and the ABC scripted and unscripted Broadcast Standards & Practices groups on a wide range of matters including editorial and newsgathering issues involved in the preparation and distribution of national and local news programming; FCC regulatory issues; and sweepstakes/contests/promotions.
Responsibilities:
The successful applicant for the Counsel position will be expected to advise the ABC owned television stations and the Television Network on a wide variety of FCC regulatory issues, including at least some of the following:
FCC licensing
Children’s programming requirements and reports
Political and issue advertising, including access, public file, and lowest unit rate rules
Equal time
Indecency
Sponsor identification
Public file requirements
FCC EEO requirements
Issue/program reports
Closed captioning (including responding to viewer complaints)
Manage FCC licenses and related filings to ensure our compliance with those licenses, including overseeing the preparation and submission of ownership reports.
Other FCC regulatory matters that may arise
Basic Qualifications:
Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a law firm, at the FCC, or as in-house counsel at a media company on at least some of the issues
General familiarity with FCC structures and processes
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively with team lawyers in New York, NY and Burbank, CA, and Disney’s Government Relations team in Washington, DC
Outstanding legal analytic skills
Demonstrated motivation, accountability, and independent initiative.
Preferred Qualifications:
Existing knowledge and experience with at least some of the following: FCC licensing, Childrens’ programming requirement, political issues advertising, equal time, indecency, sponsor identification, public file requirements, FCC EEO requirements, closed captioning.
Required Education:
JD or equivalent from an accredited law school
Admission to the State Bar in the jurisdiction where the position is located or willingness and qualification to be Registered In-House Counsel in such jurisdiction

The hiring range for this position in Washington, D.C., Burbank, CA or New York, NY is $133,280.00 - $189,750.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
