JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a curious and creative production leader to join our growing audio team at National Geographic.


The Executive Producer of Audio sets the tone and tenor of National Geographic's flagship podcast Overheard at National Geographic and is a visionary in thinking about how to expand audio at National Geographic.

Overheard is a curiosity-driven show, where we talk with explorers, scientists, and photographers at the edges of our big, weird, beautiful world. Our award-winning and industry-recognized podcast has more than 5 million downloads in our first three seasons.

This position is based out of National Geographic's Washington, DC headquarters.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as touchpoint within National Geographic for podcasts; interface with National Geographic Media leadership
  • Ensure journalistic integrity and excellence of storytelling of Overheard and other National Geographic podcasts
  • Research and develop additional shows with National Geographic Media, Channel, and Society
  • Lead a small but mighty production team
  • Work collaboratively with senior producers and editors to establish production schedule; ensure key deliverables are met; and advise on logistics as needed
  • Recruit and develop editor, producer, and host talent

Qualifications

  • At least 7 to 10 years of experience producing radio/podcasts
  • At least 3 years management experience
  • Experience guiding/mentoring editors, producers, and hosts
  • Strong research/journalism skills
  • Proven ability to communicate up
  • Experience setting and managing budgets
  • Superior knowledge of the podcast industry, writ large
  • Top-notch organizational skills, attention to detail, and time-management
  • Excellent communication skills, written and spoken
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

Preferred Skills

  • Excellent skills in ProTools audio editing software
  • Experience reporting science, environment, and social science stories
