Job Summary:

ABC News is looking for a highly motivated and qualified professional for a full time manager of editing operations based in the Washington DC Bureau. The ABC News Washington Bureau is one of the largest bureaus in DC and produces content for all ABC News platforms, including ABC News Studios and HULU. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to be part of a cutting edge network level broadcast & digital operation.

Candidates must possess a wide range of knowledge and skills in editing operations, people management, large-scale workflows and technologies. In addition, candidates must have the ability to manage multiple projects at once, work directly with multiple stake-holders at ABC News platforms, and oversee the day-to-day operation of the bureau’s editing department in a fast-paced news environment.

The Manager of DC Editing Operations will be responsible for ensuring a high standard of the bureau’s editing product and facilities. This includes overseeing 20 editing workstations and managing over 20 staff, freelance, union and non-union employees. Editing at ABC News involves in-house editing, remote editing and virtual editing every day with various software’s such as Avid Media Composer, Adobe After Effects and Adobe Media Encoder. This manager will also be responsible for training editors and producers on Avid & show production systems, as well as work very closely with the bureaus ingest and archive departments. Candidates must have in-depth knowledge and experience with all of these areas.

This position is “hands on” and candidates must be able to work on their own and be a willing team player with the DC and NY Operations teams. Candidates must be willing to work outside normal business hours including evenings and weekends and have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

This position will also be a visionary, overseeing editing workflows pertaining to new technologies.


  • Manage and coordinate show assignments and projects for all editing facilities
  • Hire, manage and schedule union, non-union editors and producer/editors
  • Maintain all edit room systems, coordinate upgrades, coordinate maintenance for editing & ingest equipment with various departments
  • Act as a bureau liaison with NY Editing Operations to ensure in-depth coordination and communication between the two cities
  • Develop, maintain and teach edit/ingest/archive workflows to bureau employees
  • Train new staff on broadcast workflows, teleprompter and DMC ingest practices & ensure high quality work
  • Support employees use of news applications (including AVID, iNews, Media Central, OnCloud, etc) and coordinate permissions for these apps
  • Maintain DC media catalogs, keep them current and ensure key footage is always quickly available
  • Troubleshoot general problems for editors and cutting producers, both in-house and those working remotely
  • Other duties assigned as needed

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must be a strong team leader and skilled in managing a workforce.
  • Must have a minimum eight years’ experience in television news operations.
  • Must have a minimum five years’ experience managing a team(s) including personnel and department budget.
  • Must have experience with breaking news events.
  • Must have experience managing multiple projects at once
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and written

Required Education

  • BA or BS from a four year accredited college or university or equivalent experience

This role is considered hybrid, which means the employee will work a portion of their time on-site from a Company designated location and the remainder of their time remotely.
