A day in the life…

The Image Collection’s mission is to manage the digital media asset archive for both NGP & NGS. By collecting, preserving and providing efficient access to these assets, the Image Collection enables NGP/NGS and Disney to use our world-renowned media assets to meet business goals. The Nat Geo Image Collection is the home of every National Geographic photograph—a collection of over 64 million images. Our photos range from 1867 to the present, and cover myriad subject matters. The Image Collection’s digital holdings include approximately 1M images with residual rights. While not every NG image is available for every use, our experts curate selections as a service to the enterprise.


  • Learn about photography and NGP photographic excellence standards.
  • Learn about NG portfolio of products and work towards understanding what type of photography can be used for editorial and commercial (consumer) products
  • Help edit photographs for the NG Image Collection archive as needed. 
  • Assist with edit selection for images posted on the @NatGeoImageCollection account
  • Update database with photo information as needed.
  • Attend weekly editing and research meeting and biweekly all staff meetings

What you bring to the role…

  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated and resourceful, with the ability to work with minimal supervision and exercise independent judgment
  • Adept at learning new software and systems

(Preferred Qualifications)

  • Some background in photography, editing, photo asset management and/or archives
  • Major in Journalism or Visual Arts preferred

Additional Information

Internship Eligibility:

  • All students must possess unrestricted work authorization
  • All students must be at least 18 years old
  • At the time of application, must be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within 6 months OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship
  • All candidates must be able to have a consistent, reliable work schedule throughout the session.
  • All candidates must provide their own housing and transportation for the duration of the internship.

Program Dates:

  • All candidates must be available from June 1 – August 7
  • All candidates must be willing to work up to 40 hours/week, flexible schedule
