The Nat Geo Media team covers everything on the consumer journey, from print, digital, social, and audio content creation, generating awareness through social and newsletters, acquisition, and retention marketing, print operations, international licensing, and digital platforms. The Integrated Storytelling team sits with NG Media’s Editorial team, and imagines and produces National Geographic's most ambitious storytelling across its digital, mobile, and audio platforms, as well as five print products: National Geographic magazine, National Geographic History, National Geographic Kids, National Geographic Little Kids, and Special Interest Publications. These stories not only support our goals and mission but also live beyond our platforms via strategic and creative collaborations with our partners at other divisions of the National Geographic brand, including the National Geographic Channel, at The Walt Disney Company, and at our non-profit partner, the National Geographic Society.
Job Summary:
The Senior Manager, Integrated Storytelling, is responsible for orchestrating world-class editorial projects while managing critical relationships with National Geographic Media's primary partners—including but not limited to Disney+ and National Geographic Channel, ABC, and the National Geographic Society. The Senior Manager is passionate about cultivating extraordinary stories and will concept editorial features and content packages, commission and edit work by both internal and external contributors, build an extensive editorial calendar, and guide the integrated storytelling process while bringing a forward-thinking editorial sensibility to our team.
Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:
Lead story teams to execute our integrated storytelling strategy and build and manage a calendar of high-investment, high-quality content that is consistent with the values and mission of National Geographic
Lead editorial planning and execution on editorial projects with our partners at The Walt Disney Company and National Geographic Society
Develop and shape compelling pitches for content packages, including feature articles, digital pieces, and special projects
Edit and provide direction to internal writers and editors, plus an external team of contributors
Day-to-day management of long-range editorial planning for special projects, including helping to define roles and workflows
Basic Qualifications:
Minimum of 8 years of developing, commissioning, and editing stories for both print and digital platforms with extensive hands-on experience developing editorial packages that include visual and multimedia components
Proven track record of delivering ambitious editorial initiatives from idea to execution
Experience building teams, as well as managing and mentoring high-performing editorial staff
Outstanding editorial judgment and creative thinking
Superior editing and writing skills for narrative-driven feature content
Excellent organizational, project planning, presentation, and time management skills with meticulous attention to detail
Ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of people in highly matrixed conditions across numerous companies and with colleagues outside editorial, including communications and marketing, business support including sales, promotion, and development
Proven track record in growing digital audiences and expanding audience demographics
Solid knowledge of digital media platforms
Familiarity with digital business models and media products preferred
Required Education:
College undergraduate degree
