JOB DESCRIPTION

The Senior Unit Manager manages schedules and tracks deliverables for up to 175 + hours of Unscripted Programming for Global, International and Regional programs across all platforms. For approximately 20-25 productions, with 20+ production companies worldwide. Works closely with the production team located in DC and assigned third party production companies. Senior Unit Manager will review schedules, track and receive deliverables and ensure best practices across assigned programming. Key responsibilities include creating and finalizing contract attachments, tracking deliverables, overseeing schedule changes, and liaising with various internal departments. Additional responsibilities include educating 3rd Party Production companies on compliance, risk assessments, background checks and carbon offset.  Senior Unit Manager will liaise with internal departments on various production reviews/approvals including corporate aviation requests, trade out requests, and production requests. They will also support the Line Producers by assisting with managing internal cash flows and payment processing.

Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with third party production companies and internal departments to create, negotiate, and finalize contract attachments for newly assigned programming. Provide vendors with all technical specs, clocks, and credit requirements and advise on all NG technical and business standard operating guidelines to ensure programs meet the high-quality standards expected for National Geographic.

  • Finalize contract exhibits that set the parameters of the production.

  • Proactively communicate with third party production companies throughout the production regarding the schedule. To manage, track, and receive all program deliverables approximately 50+ deliverables for each production. Maintain cut and master delivery schedules and follow up on missing or late deliveries. Assist production companies in formulating strategies for bringing productions back on track after setbacks. Track and take receipt of program deliverables & notify internal departments of delivery and schedule changes throughout production.

  • Delivery of materials for promotion and broadcast of the program. Teamwork in which all parties are aware of the schedule and end goal. Other departments receive the information and materials needed to include in the listings, promote, and broadcast the program. Update and maintain production and deliverable status in NGC systems for tracking, weekly reports, communication, and workload for teams and internal departments.

  • Educate 3rd Party Production companies on compliance, risk assessments, background checks and carbon offset. Liaise with internal departments on various production reviews/approvals including corporate aviation requests, trade out requests, and production requests.

  • Ensure internal departments have up to date information and the production remains on track.

  • Support Production Managers and Line Producers with cash flows and payment processing and liaising with internal departments on various production reviews/approvals.

  • Ensure payments are made in a timely manner.

  • Update and maintain production and deliverable status in NGC systems for tracking, weekly reports, communication, and workload for teams and internal departments.

  • All Departments and Executives have up to date information on assets and schedules.

  • Assist Marketing in facilitating ancillary asset requests and delivery from various internal NGP & Disney business units.

  • The Networks receive adequate material for the 360° exploitation of the program.

  • Visit production companies within key markets.

  • To review best practices, shoots in the field, and to ensure daily operations are executed efficiently and timely from a Production Management perspective.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 years of long form, unscripted production experience working as a Production Coordinator and 2 years working as a Production Specialist on original productions for broadcast networks and/or third-party production companies.

  • Knowledge of production and post-production processes and logistics in addition to familiarity with broadcast deliverables and technical specifications. Experience working with international clients.

  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Diplomatic skills when working on challenging projects.

  • Ability to switch between multiple unique projects that are in different stages of production all over the world (i.e. different time zones).

  • An awareness of the bigger picture as it relates to the entire production, the Channels’ programming slate, and team members’ workloads.

  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel), media-sharing platforms, and customized data entry applications.

  • Quickly adapts to learning new technology, workflows, software and systems.

  • Extremely detailed oriented, comfortable multi-tasking, manages time effectively, efficient, organized, takes initiative with little direction and is self-motivated.

  • Ability to prioritize what’s most important at any given moment and adjust as necessary.
