Job Summary:

Ready to make magic? Disney Streaming UK are excited to be able to offer a number of UK based Internships for undergraduates across our Manchester team.

As a Software Engineering intern at Disney Streaming, you’ll be working on the next big thing. That could be scaling a service to serve millions of requests per second, managing state across multiple regions, or building new mechanisms to secure our video content.


We support more than 186 million Direct-To-Consumer (DTC) subscribers globally: across Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu. Ensuring our millions of users have the magical experience they come to expect from Disney, when watching their favourite shows is a challenge that we relish. This means scaling and reliability is our primary focus in everything we build.

So what can you expect to do working as an Intern Software Engineer at Disney Streaming?

  • Make an immediate impact by shipping a major feature as part of a small Agile team.

  • Work on projects that have direct, daily impacts on consumers.

  • Build tooling and dashboards to monitor the health of your applications.

  • Optimise a build and release pipeline to get software to production efficiently and safely.

What technologies will you work with?

  • Scala, Java

  • AWS Kinesis & Apache Kafka

  • Relational and/or no-SQL databases

  • Large scale distributed systems

  • Cloud Infrastructure/Services (AWS)

Eligibility

  • Must be a second-year undergraduate student on an industrial placement year course returning to study in Autumn 2025.

  • Must have the right to work in the UK already in place.

  • Available to start working full time in the summer of 2024.

About you

  • Experience with Scala, Java or any other JVM programming language is preferable.

  • Fundamental programming experience is essential.

  • You will need to be based in the UK for the entire duration of your program, barring personal vacation time.

Our interview process

Our process aims to take a relaxed and practical approach that mirrors how we’ll work together should you join us. This starts with a small offline coding challenge to complete in your own time. If successful, we will invite you to interview with us where we will review your code together, discuss the opportunity, your relevant experience, and various related technical and non-technical topics.

We understand interviewing is a two-way process, so we’ll give you every opportunity to ask questions to understand the team and the role.
