How you will contribute to our magical experience?: 

Product Engineering is a unified team responsible for the engineering of Disney Entertainment & ESPN digital and streaming products and platforms. This includes product engineering, media engineering, quality assurance, and the engineering behind personalization, commerce, lifecycle, and identity.

This team is responsible for building the tools used by our operator teams to perform quality control (QC) across highly visible live and video-on-demand media workflows, implementing playback features, and ensuring seamless integration with operator tooling. These solutions enable operators to efficiently monitor content and deliver the highest-quality experience to our customers.

The Tech Lead (Fullstack) will be responsible for: 

  • Implement new features and user interfaces to support evolving business and operational needs.
  • Maintain and enhance the applications and tools used daily by our operator teams.
  • Define scalable frontend architecture, reusable components, coding standards, and development best practices.
  • Collaborate with API design teams, backend engineering teams, and other frontend teams that depend on our libraries and services.
  • Partner with Product Management, UX, application development teams, and services engineering teams to translate product and operational requirements into technical solutions.
  • Design and integrate frontend applications with backend services, APIs, messaging systems, and internal platforms.
  • Identify and resolve issues blocking the testing and release of applications and features.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the codebase to identify, research, and resolve technical issues across the full application stack.
  • Lead strategies to ensure the quality, reliability, performance, accessibility, and stability of our applications and deployments, including testing strategies and telemetry approaches.
  • Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance to engineers while remaining hands-on throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Develop and maintain the project’s build and continuous integration systems as needed.
  • Mentor developers, provide technical expertise, and promote knowledge sharing across the team.
  • Lead code reviews and hold the team accountable for high engineering and development standards.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and provide operational support as needed.

What we need from you to be part of this story:

  • 5+ years of experience building and delivering production-grade software applications.
  • Proven experience providing technical leadership, defining engineering standards, and guiding software development teams.
  • Strong full-stack development experience, with advanced expertise in frontend engineering and application architecture.
  • Advanced experience with JavaScript and TypeScript, including modern frontend frameworks and component-based application development.
  • Experience designing responsive, accessible, reliable, and high-performing user interfaces.
  • Solid experience integrating frontend applications with RESTful APIs, backend services, and distributed systems.
  • Working knowledge of backend development, service architecture, data flows, and API design.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or a comparable field of study, and/or equivalent professional experience.
  • Strong understanding of asynchronous programming models, including events, callbacks, promises, async/await, threading, and concurrency.
  • Understanding of source control concepts and systems, CI/CD pipelines, and GitHub-based development workflows.
  • Experience with build and deployment technologies such as Jenkins and Docker.
  • Experience with messaging technologies such as Kafka, Kinesis, SQS, or similar platforms.
  • Strong understanding of web accessibility fundamentals and frontend performance best practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes across frontend and backend systems.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, and rapidly changing environment
