People Insights is a Center of Excellence (CoE) that enables TWDC Human Resource leadership to attract, engage, and retain talent through compelling and actionable People Analytics. We integrate and transform organizational, HR, and Talent Acquisition data into a unified BI portfolio that empowers clients to create compelling stories about our most valuable resource: people.

As an Analyst, Data Governance you will bring your natural passion for working with and delivering data solutions to a team that enables data-driven HR strategy for the Walt Disney Company. In this role, you will have the chance to leverage your knowledge to champion data governance by supporting the deployment of policies, data management processes, and audits that ensure our products adhere to TDWC Global Information Security Policies & Standards and global privacy laws. This role requires skills to support data enablement across complex datasets, a basic understanding of how data is architected in an enterprise, solid communication, and the ability to apply standard solutions in an agile way.

Job Summary

The Data Quality & Governance team develops and maintains tools and processes which support data management, access & environment management, policy compliance, data stewardship, and delivery of accurate data.  The team works with stakeholders from across HR to ensure data requirements are clear, well documented, translated into technical requirements, validated for accuracy & business usability, and effectively communicated back to stakeholders throughout the implementation process.  Additionally, the team has critical partnerships with Legal, Privacy, Information Systems, and Data Engineering to ensure the storage, handling, and usage of data is compliant with company standards and global laws. 

Key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Sustainment of data governance policies, including basic analysis and communication of potential impacts of policy changes

  • Collaborate with Data Engineers, Product Designers, and Data Analysts to understand data usage and visibility within data workflows and end products/tools

  • Sustain intuitive metrics that show stakeholders the compliance and usage of their data in an actionable format
  • Run processes, procedures, and workflows that audit compliance and security of data across complex, interdependent data systems
  • Leverage your skills in SQL, Python/R, and metadata management to support data profiling, data classification and tagging, and data cataloging strategies
  • Collaborate across teams as a data governance advocate, sharing understanding of policies, security, and data enablement efforts
  • Create and maintain technical documentation in support of data governance program
  • Assist in analysis and communication of impacts of data updates, changes, additions/removals to technical and non-technical partners

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering, Analytics or related field or 7+ years equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years of experience in data management, data engineering, data governance, business intelligence or analysis-based environments
  • Basic experience with SQL and Python or other scripting languages and experience working with Snowflake or similar cloud data warehouse platforms

  • Familiarity with governance tools (Alation, Collibra, Informatica), agile tools (JIRA, Confluence, Git), or other communication tools that enable discovery and usability of data
  • Basic understanding of data warehousing and integration architecture, inclusive of experience working with cloud platforms and data warehouses in large data environments
  • Solid problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex data issues
  • Solid written and oral communication skills that translate across technical and business domains
  • Demonstrated collaboration skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment

  • Familiarity with Data Governance programs, covering data management and data stewardship
  • Conceptual understanding of legal and privacy implications to data management
  • Conceptual understanding of data security approaches and implementations
  • Familiarity with AI and machine learning concepts

  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced operational environment where change is the norm

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, Cognos)

The hiring range for this position in Burbank is $85,800-$104,800 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered. This position can be located near any Disney Hub (Burbank, CA or Orlando, FL) with potential opportunities for remote work.
