The Custom Applications (CAPPS) Engineering and Integration team is part of the Digital Experience (DX) Engineering group within the Enterprise Technology organization. CAPPS supports The Walt Disney Company (TWDC) segments and business units by designing, building, maintaining, and operating digital media properties by partnering in all phases of development. By providing a wide range of consulting and delivery services throughout the product lifecycle, we guide business units through the relevant TWDC standards, requirements, and compliance processes, ensuring best practices are followed.

We are seeking a highly experienced and dynamic Senior Software Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker and engaging communicator with a deep understanding of technology and its application in the enterprise organization. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and optimizing cutting-edge solutions that drive our clients' success. The Senior Software Engineer works with project constituents to establish project scope, design system architecture, develop and review code and establish deployment strategies and processes. This role will also interface between third-party vendors and other service delivery groups within Enterprise Technology. The Senior Software Engineer must have the ability to connect with and influence a wide variety of project constituents including both technical and non-technical resources.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute upon requirements for web applications and digital media properties built primarily on the LAMP and WordPress tech stacks.

  • Collaborate with a wide array of Product and Project Managers, business stakeholders, and creative teams to understand business objectives and develop comprehensive technical solutions.

  • Design, architect and develop scalable, high-performance systems and applications tailored to unique and individual client needs.

  • Lead the end-to-end solution delivery process, from initial concept through implementation, ensuring alignment with client goals and industry best practices.

  • Engage in “hands on” software development (typically 25-50% of the role)

  • Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies and tools to enhance our service offerings and maintain a competitive edge.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to development teams, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

  • Conduct thorough assessments of existing systems and processes, identifying areas for improvement and optimization.

  • Ensure compliance with data security and privacy regulations, implementing robust measures to protect client information.

  • Act as a liaison between technical and non-technical stakeholders, effectively communicating complex concepts in a clear and concise manner.

  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, advancements, and best practices to inform strategic decision-making.

Must Have:

  • 5+ years of experience in a related IT related field

  • 5+ years experience with the following:

    • Hands-on CMS development including expertise in WordPress

    • Server-side PHP and/or equivalent frameworks

    • Supporting web applications in AWS, and experience with tools: RDS, CloudFront, ECS, Lambda

    • Development and deployment tools to develop LAMP-based enterprise or commercial software systems

    • Client-side development: HTML, JavaScript, CSS, XML, JSON, jQuery

    • Formal development experience (Scrum, Waterfall, or XP)

    • Compliance analysis and enforcement (Security/Open Source/etc)

    • Architecting interdependent HA systems of applications in AWS Cloud

    • LAMP Stack expertise, especially including WordPress and Laravel

    • Containerization tools such as Docker and AWS Elastic Container Service

    • Authentication and Authorization tools, including SSO, OAuth, SAML

    • Site performance strategy and testing methodologies/tools such as Blazemeter

    • Site monitoring/alerting strategy, including tools such as PagerDuty, New Relic, Datadog, and AWS CloudWatch

  • Proven track record of delivering highly available, scalable N-Tier solutions

  • Solid understanding of the entire Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and project management methodologies such as Scrum, Waterfall, XP, etc. 

  • Demonstrated ability to manage project, departmental and enterprise related risks related to projects, resolve issues, develop detailed work plans and specifications, perform resource allocations and run productive meetings

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience


The hiring range for this position in California is $136,100.00-$182,400.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
