Job Summary:

We seek a Senior Storage Engineer who is passionate about building and maintaining data storage solutions in our creative studio environment, and who is comfortable working within the key technology pillars of storage, software tools, and Linux administration. As an essential team member, you will leverage your understanding of HPC storage architecture to administer and help architect centralized storage on the Data Storage and Backups team. You will develop software solutions that enable the team to manage our systems and visualize relevant metadata and metrics. Success in this role requires technical expertise, strong collaboration skills, and the ability to translate complex concepts for diverse teams. Given our studio's highly customized and proprietary nature, a strong aptitude for continuous learning and incorporating evolving technologies is essential. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build and support our on-prem HPC storage systems

  • Develop software tools that enhance storage administration, automate repetitive tasks, and provide visualization of key metadata and performance metrics

  • Work with internal and external engineering teams to implement and integrate targeted solutions that help our technical artists understand their storage usage

  • Foster relationships with department team peers, production department artists, show leadership, other Disney studios, and industry counterparts

  • Clearly and comprehensively author and articulate project roadmaps, scenarios, and pitches to different technical, production, and leadership audiences

  • Adapt, learn, and become proficient in programming or hardware architectural needs across multiple projects

  • Actively create a positive workspace whereby questions and concerns of team members can be voiced openly and honestly

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience implementing and maintaining modern scale-out file storage solutions incorporating NFS, SMB, and S3 protocols

  • Proficiency in Linux system administration, including automated OS installation, package management, diagnostic procedures, and performance troubleshooting/profiling

  • Programming skills in languages such as Python, Go, or similar, with experience developing tools to support infrastructure or storage environments, including integrating with storage systems via REST APIs or other programmatic interfaces

  • Familiarity with crafting solutions within legacy technical boundaries

  • Must be able to participate in a shared storage systems on-call rotation for critical issues

  • Relevant degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, with 8+ years of experience in storage administration, system engineering, or a related area

SKILLS:

  • Familiarity with storage infrastructure automation and monitoring tools

  • Expertise in building software solutions with support for integration across relational and non-relational database environments

  • Experience using Revision Control Systems and writing clear software documentation

  • Familiarity with virtualization and container platforms

  • Experience working with, or within, the Media and Entertainment industry

The hiring range for this position in Emeryville is $145,265.00 to $187,990.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
