The Disney Branded Television (DBT) group oversees the creation, development, and production of live-action and animation television content through the Disney Television Animation studio for children, teenagers, and families under the Disney brand. This content is aired on the group's various cable channels, such as Disney Channel, Disney Junior, Disney XD, and the Disney + Streaming platform. DBT works on developing original series, movies, and other content that align with Disney's family-friendly brand image and appeal to their target audience. These television properties could include distribution deals, marketing strategies, and brand management.

Because of DBT's strong use of commercial and custom software technologies to create its products, its use of technology, engineering, development techniques and software is essential to its production operations and workflows. We’re looking for an intellectually curious, business-savvy, analytical powerhouse to join the Disney Branded Television Technology team as a Senior Software Engineer in Test. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and supporting solutions across DBT: Productions and Development.

*This role is primarily on-site (Glendale, CA) and occasionally from home

What You Will Do

The Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (Sr. SDET / SSDET) is the link between end users and the software developers. The SSDET’s core responsibilities are to automate detection of bugs / flaws in both frontend and backend software solutions before the end user is involved. Once the SSDET documents and demonstrates suspected software problems to management and the software engineering teams, the software is revised and retested in cycles until approved for release to end users.

SSDET’s responsibilities are as follows:

  • Work closely with the Web Based Software Development team to understand the complex application needs for Disney Television Animation
  • Write automated test for a suite of full-stack web applications using the Cypress framework
  • Incorporate automated tests with web application GitLab CI/CD Pipelines.
  • Provide support during the process of new code releases
  • Estimate/measure web application performance and help to define SLAs, providing feedback for potential optimization and fine-tuning
  • Provide high-level support for developed solutions, working with end users and the development team for feedback and troubleshooting to ensure software solutions meet expectations
  • Documentation of QA Automation procedures / workflow and software issues
  • Proactively research and evaluate new technologies, recommending and championing new solutions and best practices for the QA Automation pipeline

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience in a related field
  • 5 years of professional automated software testing experience
  • Experience writing automated tests with JavaScript and Cypress, or other similar testing frameworks, such as TestCafe, MochaJS, JEST, etc.
  • Experience with Docker and Git workflows
  • Knowledge of Design Patterns for Enterprise Application Development

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree in a technical subject area
  • Working knowledge of the television/animation business
  • Cypress Ambassador Program

The hiring range for this position in CA is $112,600.00 to $151,000.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
