Job Summary:

DDSI Senior Application Engineer      

The Disney Decision Science and Integration (DDSI) team is responsible for supporting clients across The Walt Disney Company (TWDC) including Disney Parks, Experiences and Products (DPEP), Disney Entertainment (e.g., ABC, The Walt Disney Studios, Disney Theatrical, etc.), ESPN (ESPN Networks, ESPN+), and Corporate Finance. DDSI leverages technology, data analytics, optimization, and statistical modeling to build innovative tools that shape business decisions and drive business value. 

Senior Application Engineers on the DDSI team are hands-on developers and innovators that enjoy working in a cutting-edge environment. They design, build, and ship strategic software platforms and applications that enable internal business decision-makers to view and manage data related to decision science workflows. These applications range from web-based end-user experiences to RESTful APIs and orchestrated data services.  

In this role, as a Senior Application Engineer, you will be part of a team developing a web-based analytic platform for Disney Parks, Experiences and Products. You will design, build, and ship new functionality for a new platform. This role requires technical expertise, creative thinking, a sense of urgency, attention to detail, a platform mindset, and a collaborative work ethic. 

Your Role: 

  • Design, build, and ship new features of a cutting-edge software platform that serves strategic internal business decision-makers for Disney Parks, Experiences and Products (DPEP) 

  • Innovate by researching and championing new ways to solve complex software problems 

  • Lead, mentor, and assist other Application Engineers  

  • Collaborate with Product Managers on application requirements, priorities, estimates, and project plans 

  • Collaborate with Data Scientists to understand science model inputs & outputs and represent them in user-friendly applications 

  • Collaborate with Data Engineers on data storage, retrieval, and archiving routines 

  • Collaborate with DevOps to architect application environments, security, and continuous integration 

  • Draft and propose creative user experiences through workflows, wireframes, and mockups that meet business requirements 

  • Support a global and enterprise-wide mission by evangelizing best practices in the field of software development within DDSI and other Disney technology teams 

What We’re Looking For: 

  • Proven experience designing full-stack web platforms on cloud infrastructure (AWS) including front-end, back-end, data persistence, data security, caching, scalability, APIs, and monitoring 

  • Demonstrated ability to design and build applications that address complex data problems with user-friendly solutions 

  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical project assignments from start to finish, meet deadlines, manage priorities, anticipate problems, adapt to changing requirements, and resolve technical issues  

  • Ability to work with other team members to review technical project plans and estimate task effort  

  • Ability to communicate, collaborate and compromise with other team members and leaders 

  • Ability to test new features, identify possible issues, and provide solutions to complex problems.  

Required Experience: 

  • 5+ years of experience in software development with expertise in at least one language 

  • 3+ years of experience with Python  

  • 3+ years of front-end experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript 

  • Experience with Django or similar Python web frameworks 

  • Experience with React or similar front-end JavaScript libraries or frameworks 

  • Experience building application pages and services that process large and complex volumes of data with various databases and data warehouses such as PostgreSQL and Snowflake 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Data Mining, Mathematics or equivalent 

How To Stand Out: 

  • Proficient in AWS web application architecture 

  • Proficient in React, Python, and/or Django 

  • Experience building applications in a decision science environment 

  • Experience with Next.js 

  • Experience with GitLab CI/CD 

  • Experience with Snowflake 

  • Experience leading UI/UX design 

  • Proficient in optimizing front-end and back-end applications for large and complex datasets 

  • Experience developing user scenarios, business requirements, mockups, and technical specifications 

  • Experience evaluating, choosing, and rolling out team software tools and component libraries  

  • Master's degree in a technical field or equivalent
