Job Summary
During maternity leave (approx. 1 year from March 2025) of the lawyer supporting Disney Destinations International (DDI) as lead counsel, the other lawyer in that team will take over as lead counsel.
The role would consist in working alongside that other lawyer to provide legal support to DDI for Walt Disney World and Disney Cruise Line commercial activities across EMEA and for Disneyland Paris (DLP) in the UK/Ireland.
The role also includes providing legal support in EMEA to National Geographic Expeditions (NGE) as needed.
The position requires a qualified lawyer with advanced knowledge of commercial law and consumer law, expert contract drafting and negotiation skills and the ability to prioritise multiple competing matters with a commercial and strategic mind-set. Experience with travel regulations and e-commerce issues is a plus.
The role reports to the Assistant Chief Counsel Travel Activities EMEA with close coordination with the other lawyer supporting DDI.
This is an office-based role. 4 days working in the Hammersmith, London office with 1 day working from home.
The Opportunity & Responsibilities:
- Provision of expert legal advice on commercial, consumer and travel law issues arising from the travel business
- Coordination with colleagues that are experts in other areas of law (competition law, intellectual property law, data protection laws, …)
- Support to the business independently on everyday business and under the supervision of more senior lawyers on more complex or high-risk matters
- Advice to the business to ensure DDI’s compliance with its regulatory obligations, in particular under package travel regulations
Experience, Professional Qualifications and Skills Required
- Significant experience acquired in a law firm and/or in-house, supporting major corporate clients in their core business activities, ideally in an international environment,
- UK Qualified lawyer
- Contract, IP, tourism, consumer and commercial law expertise
- Good knowledge and understanding of competition law and data protection laws
- Ability to recommend appropriate contractual and legal frameworks and structures
- Advanced knowledge of digital distribution issues relating to apps and e-commerce
- Solid understanding of the travel business
- Ability to handle everyday matters autonomously
- Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively based on risk exposure and business objectives
- Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
- Methodical and meticulous
- Communication of legal matters to non-legal audience and ability to adjust to audience
