Job Summary:

The Systems Engineer conducts design and development activities for Disney Cruise Line on behalf of DSE (Disney Signature Experiences) Technology & Digital and WDI (Walt Disney Imagineering).  The Systems Engineer integrates business and creative elements into the design for the shipboard Technology infrastructure.  Attends WDI and Shipyard design work sessions, documents requirements, tracks dependencies and coordinates with New Build team members and external stakeholders to fulfil phase design milestone deadlines.  The Systems Engineer will follow Technology standards that meet the business requirements whilst adhering to Maritime regulations and Disney Cyber Security standards.

The systems engineer will possess a strong understanding of shipboard design principles, including the layout and integration of various systems such as electrical, mechanical, and communication systems. They will be knowledgeable about the unique challenges and requirements of designing for the marine environment, including space constraints, durability, and safety standards. Additionally, they will be skilled in ensuring that all systems work cohesively and efficiently within the overall shipboard infrastructure, while adhering to regulatory and operational standards.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define the design of the Technology Systems to support the delivery of Phase design deliverables.

  • Partner with peer organizations, ensuring their schedules and milestones are met to facilitate Disney Cruise Line operational requirements.

  • Develops tools, automation, and scripts to facilitate efficient system build processes.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define the design and implement plan of converged system solutions for Marine and Technical technologies.

  • Defines build processes to ensure all team members, regardless of expertise, can effectively contribute to and perform tasks.

  • Design and utilize documentation to allow all stakeholders access to information efficiently.  Documentation should be stored in a collaborative platform allowing for multiple stakeholders to access the data either online or offline as needs may require.

  • Ensure Disney Cyber Security standards are applied to 3rd Party Operational Technology Systems such as Bridge Navigation, Engine Management and Onboard Safety Systems.

  • Develop standardized processes for issue reporting to allow team members to keep consistent feedback to stakeholders.

  • Develops relationships with Internal Technology Team Members and External Stakeholders to facilitate collaborative efforts in finding creative solutions to issues as they arise.

  • Collaborate with satellite providers to ensure the design and integration of satellite communication systems meet all technical specifications, performance requirements, and regulatory standards.

  • Integrate IT and OT infrastructure, ensuring seamless integration, compliance with industry standards, and alignment with operational requirements.

  • Work with Project Management to develop automated systems and processes for generating real-time status and progress reports, enabling data-driven decision-making for project leadership.  Example integration with shipboard network to ingest live switchport status.

  • Collaborate with Project Management to identify and define technical dependencies within the ship build schedule, ensuring seamless integration and alignment with project planning milestones.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or Engineering field

  • 2+ years of progressively related experience in Engineering and/or Technology

  • Previous experience in Cruise Ship Construction

  • Experience with Autodesk Construction and AutoCAD software suites

  • Experience with Smartsheets for the purpose of collaborating on project planning and reporting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Technical or Engineering Discipline

  • 4+ years of progressively related experience in Engineering and/or Technology
