About the Role & Program:
The Department of Physical and Post-Production Technology is responsible for a wide array of technologies across Industrial Light & Magic, Lucasfilm, and various other Walt Disney groups. These responsibilities include front and back-end support for dailies theaters, master control, editorial suites, and motion capture stages, as well as designing and implementing these spaces and supporting infrastructure. We also develop and maintain software focused on extending our video-related workflows. As we are constantly chasing rapid technological changes, Physical and Post-Production Technology is also involved in researching and designing technologies that push the envelope in the film and visual effects industry.
What You Will Do:
The summer Physical and Post-Production Technology intern would be working alongside our media systems engineers to complete projects and upgrades such as:
- Prod Pod room upgrades and maintenance
- Editorial suite upgrades and maintenance
- View Room upgrades (dailies theaters responsible for approving visual effect shots)
- Software design for video streaming solutions and other video-related projects
The summer Physical and Post-Production Technology intern will also learn about:
- Video and audio fundamentals
- System fundamentals and design
- Software design and development best practices in a real work environment
- Video and system infrastructure fundamentals and design
- How to maintain a work environment that has a lot of equipment
Projects Include:
The Physical and Post-Production Technology Internship is a fusion of physical post-production studio fundamentals and software design. You will learn how video and audio systems are designed and implemented in a cutting-edge studio environment—from running video cables to PC building to facility video routers and enterprise networking. You will also learn how to write software on a team, write video streaming software, build and update a GUI, and make web apps.
- Projection/OLED/Editorial/Motion Capture Room troubleshooting, maintenance, and design
- Live video streaming and web app programming (Nvidia NVENC/ FFMPEG/ WebRTC/ React/ Django/ Javascript/ C++)
- Department-specific maintenance, upkeep, and organization
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Passion for the film and visual effects industry
- Interest in audio and video engineering
- Interest in technology
- Experience programming in Python/ C++ on either MacOS or Linux
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
- Proven ability to work autonomously and in team settings with a positive, proactive attitude
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
- Strong understanding and experience with professional and consumer Audio/Video signal flow.
- Familiarity and experience troubleshooting and maintaining Windows, OS X, and Linux operating systems.
- Wiring, equipment installation, and cable management skills.
- Understanding of basic computer networking principles.
- Experience with Git and software design principles
- Experience with web frameworks like Flask, React, Django
- Experience with video compression principles (codecs, protocols, color spaces, etc.)
Education:
- Currently working toward a Bachelor's with a major in Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering, or another related field.
Program Details:
Location: San Francisco, CA.
Program Length: May/June - August/September 2025 (12 weeks).
Full-time, 40 hours per week.
Eligibility Requirements & Program Information:
At the time of application:
Must be enrolled in an accredited college/university , taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program AND returning to school the semester/quarter following the internship OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship.
Must be at least 18 years old
Must possess unrestricted work authorization and provide full availability for the entire program duration.
Must provide your own housing and transportation during the internship.
Have not completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or Disney College Program.

The pay rate for this role in San Fransisco, CA, is $40.00 per hour.
