Job Summary:

Are you looking to have an impact on millions of users every day? On the Vision team within Disney, you’ll be helping collect data across platforms including ESPN, National Geographic, ABC News, Marvel and more. With that data, Disney can drive personalization efforts to ensure users keep coming back to their favorite apps. We can also create heat maps to better understand how people are using our applications. Finally, this data helps drive the creation of new content so that more and more continue to come back to the powerful brands at Disney.

As a Data Engineer II, you’ll be responsible for ensuring data quality and improve testing efficiency so that everything works smoothly for the Disney brands that use Vision. You will be responsible for defining data quality metrics, understand what data impacts the revenue of the company,  and perform root cause analysis so that we can build trust in the quality of the product.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:

  • Partner with development and product leads to capture and understand software specifications and test requirements.
  • Evaluate software for intended functional capabilities and properties.
  • Design data quality metrics with accompanying queries and reports to be run on a consistent basis.
  • Effectively communicate findings with development and product teams to improve the product.
  • Run tests and generate reports on a consistent basis.
  • Work in an Agile environment that focuses on collaboration and teamwork

Required Education, Experience/Skills/Training:

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years designing and executing queries and reports to ensure data quality and discover anomalies
  • 3+ years experience with Databricks or similar data lake
  • 3+ years experience with Spark, Python, or SQL
  • Advanced knowledge of debugging code and software development languages
  • Ability to collate data and compile test reports
  • Excellent software troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent communication skills with product and development team to ensure highest test coverage possible

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expert level experience with various data lakes
  • Experience leading and mentoring colleagues on best practices and technical concepts of building large scale solutions
  • Extensive experience defining data quality metrics
  • Experience with real-time analytics on the level of billions of events per week
  • Experience with: Databricks, Spark, Python, JIRA, Charles, Postman

Required Education  

    Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related technical field or equivalent job experience.


The hiring range for this position in Santa Monica, California is $106,900.00-$143,300.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
