Media Engineering

Media Engineering is an innovative organization that is focused on providing the best possible video playback experience, art, and metadata to customers around the world, powered by exceptional technology. This strategic work requires streamlining and repurposing technology across different business and distribution channels – including streaming, linear, and theatrical – so that technology can ebb and flow across the needs of the business.

Department Overview:

Disney’s Media Delivery team is seeking a Sr. Media Delivery Operations Specialist who will be an exceptional asset to our VOD Operations team. As a Media Delivery Operations Specialist at Hulu, you will be responsible for management of the health and accuracy of Hulu's large content library and the operational effectiveness of Hulu's content pipeline. You are a trusted operational advisor to all teams and often partners with Engineering & Product teams. The right person for this role has working experience in all manner of video operations, metadata management, and encoding distribution workflows. If you are a logical problem solver who thrives on new challenges, is driven to improve operational effectiveness, can troubleshoot on the fly, excels in cross-team collaboration, is highly organized, and has strong communication skills, then this is a great role for you!

Responsibilities:

  • Work among a small team responsible for identifying, troubleshooting, triaging, and improving upon an array of complex metadata, A/V, and systems challenges.

  • Follow established content issue escalation process for VOD; work to improve upon established escalation processes

  • Be a voice of operational improvement within Hulu's digital supply chain and content toolset; independently and proactively analyze operational workflows to propose scalable solutions to operational issues

  • Provide operational guidance and communicate tech challenges and business requirements effectively to a variety of stakeholders

  • Utilize your advanced understanding of standard methodologies to build stronger Ops/Development relationships

  • Manage multiple tasks simultaneously and be able to respond to issues in a timely and effective manner

  • Willingness to take part in a rotating on-call schedule to address timely issues off-hours

Basic Skills:

  • Minimum 5 years experience in digital distribution, project management, post-production and/or asset management

  • Strong digital video and delivery experience, including knowledge of various video specifications, ingest platforms, and content management systems

  • Expertise with the digital content lifecycle, from production through distribution, including post-production, QC, packaging, and delivery

  • Outstanding communication skills and the ability to effectively present requirements, challenges and solutions across internal and external teams and partners

  • Ability to deliver incredibly high-quality results in a heavy multitasking environment

  • Experience with network file systems, high-speed transfer services

  • Bachelor's Degree, TV/Film Production, Communications, or similar

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience constructing complex SQL and database queries

  • Experience with Python programming language

  • Experience with Terminal (OSX) and Ubuntu (Linux) command line operations

  • Familiarity with Agile, Kanban, and Scrum methodologies

  • Experience in new and emerging video/audio encoding technology

The hiring range for this position in Santa Monica, California is $77,300 - $103,600 per year and in New York City is $81,000 - $108,500 per year and in San Fransico, California is $84,700 - $113,500 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
