The Product & Data Engineering team is responsible for end to end development for Disney’s world-class consumer-facing products, including streaming platforms Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+, and digital products & experiences across ESPN, Marvel, Disney Studios, NatGeo, and ABC News. The team drives innovation at scale for millions of consumers around the world across Apple, Android, Smart TVs, game consoles, and the web, with our platforms powering core experiences like personalization, search, messaging and data.

About The Role

Within the Product & Data Engineering group we are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Experimentation and Personalization Data team. This team is directly responsible for several critical data products and services that power A/B testing, personalization, and targeted campaigns across our streaming platforms. The ideal candidate for this role will have a strong technical background and is passionate about designing and building systems to process data at scale to provide business value and unlock powerful insights. Our tech stack includes AWS, Databricks, Airflow, Spark, and languages include Scala, Python, Kotlin and Typescript.

What You'll Do

  • Contribute to the design and growth of our Data Products and Services enabling experimentation and personalization at petabyte scale, working across the stack from big data to backend services and APIs

  • Maintain detailed documentation of your work and changes to support data quality and data governance

  • Work with stakeholders and partner teams to identify and solve business needs in the domain of data and data access, particularly in the space of using experimentation and data to improve our product and customer experience

  • Ensure high operational efficiency and quality of your solutions to meet SLAs and support commitment to our customers

  • Be an active participant and advocate of agile practice to ensure health and process improvements for your team

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant software or data engineering experience

  • Familiarity with data pipelines and orchestration frameworks (Spark, Hadoop, Databricks, Airflow)

  • Demonstrated expertise in modeling data to support business needs at scale

  • Knowledge of API design and best practices, including REST and GraphQL

  • Strong programming skills in Java, Scala or Python

  • You are a problem solver with strong attention to detail and excellent analytical and communication skills, who will collaborate to build greenfield solutions with high business value

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with A/B testing, bandits, or other mechanisms for measuring product performance in a controlled fashion

  • Understanding of approaches to model conversion and engagement in the context of a streaming application

  • Experience with: Java, Scala, Python, GraphQL, Databricks, Airflow, AWS

Required Education  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience

The hiring range for this position in Seattle, Washington and New York, NY is $145,500 to $195,000 per year. Santa Monica, CA is $138,900 to $186,200 per year, San Francisco, CA is $152,100 to $203,900 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
