Consumer Software Engineering
- Consumer Software Engineering is all about the end user. This team manages all front-end development for the consumer-facing apps that house Disney’s portfolio of brands. For example, if you’re watching Disney+ on your Apple TV – and the interface is engaging, responsive, and seamless – you have this team to thank. The list of platforms this team manages includes: iOS & Android; Smart TVs like Samsung, LG, Chromecast, Roku, & Amazon; game consoles like Xbox and PlayStation; and desktop & mobile web browsers.
Job Summary:
We are looking for a Software Engineer II to join our Roku Client SDK team. This is an opportunity to help build SDKs and libraries for the Roku (Brightscript) based device platforms to be used in industry leading apps while getting to work closely with some of the greatest minds in the streaming media technology industry. You’ll be working on libraries that drive high profile features in apps like Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+. Additionally, we build out cross platform API specifications and OS specific tooling.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:
- Collaborate
- You’ll meet with engineers and product owners to create requirements, identify common problems and work toward solutions.
- Support app teams that utilize the SDKs and libraries your team creates.
- Design
- You’ll construct APIs that are simple and elegant, with input from the core team and integrating engineers.
- Develop
- You’ll create new APIs, help improve existing frameworks, and spearhead new features.
- Test and maintain
- You’ll ensure and maintain quality through integration and unit tests, and investigate issues in the wild.
Required Education, Experience/Skills/Training:
Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience building highly scalable and performant production level applications.
- Experience with scripting languages such as Brightscript.
- Proven architectural skills and ability to communicate about software processes, architectures and design patterns.
- Experience collaborating with team members.
- Experience with source control.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of Test Driven Development process and procedures.
- Experience with networking technologies such as HTTP and WebSockets and the ability to use web debugging tools such as Charles.
- Experience with developing in a scripting language..
- Debugging and optimization skills.
- Excellent communication and collaborative skills, being a team player.
- Experience designing APIs and architecting systems used by multiple clients
- Experience developing user-facing applications across connected devices and platforms
- Experience developing libraries used by other developers
- Experience with video playback
- Understanding of concurrency and asynchronous architecture
Required Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent training or work experience.
The hiring range for this position in Seattle, WA is $123,000 - $165,000 per year and in San Francisco is $128,700 - $172,500 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
