As a Principal Safety Professional, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and sustaining critical occupational safety programs. In addition to programs, you will provide prevention through design for guest and cast safety, regulatory compliance, safety assurance strategies, and hazard analysis input for the development, implementation, and sustainment phases for designated project(s).
The Principal Safety Professional will report to a Manager, Safety.
What You Will Do
- You will work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing multiple programs and projects simultaneously.
- Focus on improving performance, reviewing source material (rules, codes, laws and standards) and identifying and sharing industry practices.
- Drive high-hazard safety programs, including Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space, Fall Protection, and Electrical Safety.
- Collaborate with multiple Departments to create and audit high hazard procedures and trainings.
- Represent Disney Experiences and Worldwide Safety by identifying items that represent an unacceptable risk for the Company or significant deviation from established design standards and norms, and recommend elevation or present these items to the applicable Safety Review Teams.
- Identify applicable Disney, Federal, State and local laws and standards for the element under design.
- Investigate and propose innovative, technological, and practical safety solutions to meet the creative intent of the project while ensuring risk mitigation/minimization and safety/regulatory compliance.
- Maintain relationships and work as part of a team within a matrix environment with all levels of leadership and employees.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- 10+ years of industrial safety and health experience, safety engineering, or related.
- Proven experience in program and project design, including an understanding of the “Safety by Design” concept.
- Strong background reviewing and analyzing design drawings/packages and hazard analyses.
- Knowledge of relevant regulatory and industry standards.
- Determined and resourceful professional with the ability to solve problems outside area of expertise.
- Proven flexibility and ability to operate within an ambiguous and changing environment.
- Proven strong planning, organization and prioritization skills.
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
- Ability to resolve conflicts and diffuse difficult situations.
- Demonstrated strong consultative and influencing skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation or Professional Engineer (PE).
- Program implementation experience.
- Design safety experience.
- Experience in safety of multi trade construction activities and construction safety industry/regulatory standards.
- Strong background in associated with theme park facilities (i.e. registered attractions, quick service kitchens, playgrounds, etc.).
Required Education
- 4-year degree
Preferred Education
- 4-year degree in Occupational Safety or Safety Engineering
- Advanced degree in Occupational Safety, Safety Engineering, Engineering, or related

The hiring range for this position in California is $126,800.00-$170,000.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
