The Construction/Design Safety position serves as a key technical safety resource for all resort projects. The position is responsible for providing prevention through design for guest and cast safety, regulatory compliance, safety assurance strategies, contractor safety, and hazard analysis input for the development, implementation, and sustainment phases.

The Senior Safety Professional will report to a Safety Manager.

This is a Project Hire/Internal Assignment (IA) with no guarantee of permanent placement with an estimated end date of 10/30/2027.

What You Will Do

  • Participate in Project Design and Construction Safety efforts from the feasibility phase through project completion in partnership with both internal clients and external vendors/contractors

 Safety Design:

  • Partner with design team and consult design elements to provide applicable and acceptable risk mitigation methodologies for the project to consider throughout the design cycle
  • Investigate and propose innovative and practical safety solutions to meet the creative intent of the project while ensuring risk mitigation/minimization and safety/regulatory compliance
  • Articulate, quantify, and qualify safety requirements to the Design Team using applicable standards and regulations, safety data and statistics, historical data, benchmarking, and risk analysis techniques
  • Review contractor submittals and shop drawings for accuracy
  • Identify applicable Disney, Federal, State, and local regulations and standards as applicable to each design
  • Provide consulting services to all stakeholders on design changes, field directed changes, design gaps and scope changes

Safety Construction:

  • Participate in inspections, field reviews/audits, acceptance testing
  • Strong working knowledge of FED and CAL OSHA regulations and construction safety practices
  • Review contractor safety plans, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and work permits
  • Ensure contractors meet pre-qualification safety requirements
  • Monitor contractor compliance with safety regulations and site requirements
  • Facilitate and/or participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and pre-job briefings
  • Frequent field presence across all projects

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in General Construction, Construction Safety, Industrial Safety and health, Safety Engineering, or similar
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and codes
  • Proven experience in project design review, including an understanding of the “Safety by Design” concept
  • Strong background reviewing and analyzing design drawings/packages and hazard analyses
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory, industry standards, and best practices as well as an ability to quickly learn internal company standards and business practices
  • Self-driven and resourceful professional with the ability to solve problems outside area of expertise
  • Ability to resolve conflicts and diffuse difficult situations

Preferred Qualifications

  • OSHA 30 (Construction) or higher certification
  • CHST, CSP, or equivalent safety certification
  • Experience in safety of multi trade construction activities and construction safety industry/regulatory standards

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in General Construction, Construction Project Management, Construction Safety, Engineering, Occupational Safety, or related.

Preferred Education

  • Advanced degree or 10+ years of experience in General Construction, Construction Project Management, Construction Safety, Engineering, Occupational Safety, or related.

The hiring range for this position in Anaheim, CA is $105,100-$140,900 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
