Architecture & Facilities Engineering (A&FE) is looking for a Utility and Sustaining Engineering team member to support the development, sustainment, testing of the fire protection systems throughout the Disneyland Resort. Our department supports facility maintenance and for Attractions, Theaters, Resort Hotels, Food and Beverage, Merchandise, Entertainment and Utilities. We also provide project support ranging from minor renovations to existing facilities and utilities as well as new construction. You will also support immediate response efforts with reactionary projects To support the daily operation of the Disneyland Resort.

Disneyland Resort consists of a wide variety of facility and occupancy types, including public assembly, retail, storage, warehousing, high-rise hotel and office, residential, commercial cooking, dining, industrial, and special amusement buildings. Systems accountabilities include fire detection and alarm, automatic sprinkler systems, water-based fire protection systems including water supplies and fire pumps, smoke control and smoke management systems, means of egress, exiting, and emergency movement of people and crowds in public assembly, commercial cooking fire protection, special hazards fire protection systems, life safety systems, building automation and controls, and explosion protection. In addition, the position will require an individual that can work in an environment of diverse general engineering knowledge in other areas such as codes, hazardous materials storage, use, and handling; gas detection and alarm systems; elevator, conveyance, and ride safety; pyrotechnics; OSHA and general safety.

This role also involves close collaboration with other engineering subject areas and multiple Disney project teams including Project Management (FAM), Walt Disney Imagineering, Entertainment, Food and Beverage, Operations, etc.

You will work with the Sr. Manager, Utility and Sustaining Engineering.

What you will do

The Senior Fire Protection Engineer in the Architectural and Facilities Engineering organization provides domain expertise in the following areas: fire protection, life safety, building and fire codes, fire hazard and risk assessment of materials and processes, fire and smoke spread, industrial fire hazards, fire investigation support, and other fire and life safety issues. The core responsibility is providing fire protection engineering support for all lines of business at the Disneyland Resort.

Job tasks for the Senior Fire Protection Engineer include field engineering support; technical recommendations for inspection, testing, and maintenance; code analysis; systems design and specifications for project support; plans review; fire hazard assessment; system downtime response and solving; investigation, root cause and failure analysis; and general consulting on fire/life safety issues. Design systems including calculations, drawings, and submittals. Review system designs developed by consultants and project design teams for accuracy, compliance with Disney standards and guiding principles, quality and completeness. Recommend system improvements, enhancements, and replacements. Proactively interface and consult with Resort lines of business, engineering services teams, and project managers to provide extraordinary engineering support. Provide P.E. sealing of drawings and review design submittals, as necessary.

Required Qualifications (for FPE)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Protection Engineering (or a related field with M.S. in FPE)
  • Professional Engineer License
  • Full awareness w/ solid understanding of California Building & Fire Codes and NFPA Codes & Standards.
  • 5+ years of experience in the design and construction of fire protection systems and/or fire protection consulting.
  • Excellent communication skills. – Ability to effectively connect with Resort Leadership, Authority Having Jurisdiction, Fire protection vendors, and craft labor.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for project support with the possibility of extended durations.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit.

Desired Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related field and/or MBA.
  • Specific experience with theme parks, resort hotels, and mixed-use facilities.
  • Knowledgeable in OSHA compliance.
  • Knowledge in the use and application of computer modeling tools for fire and smoke spread and timed egress analysis.
  • Experience with codes and standards development, including committee involvement (e.g., NFPA, ASTM, ICC, CFR, etc.).
  • Experience with fire testing and regulatory application of fire test methods to building materials.
  • Experience with FM Global Property loss prevention data sheets.


The hiring range for this position in Anaheim, CA is $102,000.00-$136,700.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
