Team Description:
Reporting to the Director of Automation, Tooling, and Observability within Global Network Engineering & Operations (GNEO), the Software Quality Engineer for Network Automation and Tools plays a critical role in the quality of our infrastructure as code solutions. This role seeks a detail-oriented and motivated Software Quality Engineer to join our Automation team. In this role, you will be responsible for testing and validating workflows designed to automate infrastructure management using code collaborating closely with development, DevOps, and operations teams to ensure the reliability, security, and performance of our automation solutions.
Responsibilities of Role:
A day in the life of this Software Quality Engineer includes the following:
Work alongside our first-class Global Network Engineering and Operations teams to understand current manual processes and business requirements
Understand how the reusable software modules integrate into end-to-end workflows
Test / validate each workflow and issue quality reports for the development team
Build automated testing pipelines to validate the continued integrity of the workflow
Create automated regression test framework for backend and frontend functionality
Test end-to-end workflows to assure compliance with requirements; issue quality reports
Recommend release candidates for production releases
Conduct demos and training for assigned automations
Integrate AI into testing framework
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and execute comprehensive test plans and test cases for infrastructure automation applications.
Validate Infrastructure as Code (IaC) scripts and tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, etc.).
Automate testing processes for continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
Identify, document, and track defects and inconsistencies; work closely with software engineers to resolve issues.
Conduct performance, scalability, and security testing for automation solutions.
Participate in code reviews and provide feedback on testability and software quality.
Develop and maintain automated test frameworks and scripts.
Monitor and analyze test results to continuously improve quality standards.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure requirements are met and applications function as intended.
Embed AI/ML and predictive analytics into testing automation frameworks for proactive issue detection.
Collaboration & Business Partnership:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams globally, including network engineers, software developers, and operations leads.
Support the testing of commercial, and open-source tools.
Service Reliability & Optimization:
Ensure service reliability, performance, and operational uptime through code-driven solutions and regression testing.
Conduct root cause analysis.
Implement monitoring dashboards and KPIs to provide visibility into automation and tooling performance.
Must Haves (Years of Experience, languages, programs, tools, etc.):
5+ years of software quality engineering experience, with strong expertise in automated test frameworks.
Strong understanding of infrastructure automation tools and concepts (IaC, CI/CD, cloud platforms).
Experience with requirements analysis, test plan design and drafting test cases.
Experience with scripting and automation languages (Python, Bash, PowerShell, etc.).
Familiarity with modern test automation frameworks and tools.
Proficient in analyzing logs, debugging, and troubleshooting complex systems.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Strong communication, collaboration and leadership skills; ability to collaborate globally on various time zones.
Education:
Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience
Preferred: Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline.
Nice To Haves:
Industry certifications for Software Quality Engineer (ASQ Certified Software Quality Engineer (CSQE) or equivalent.
