EspnW, the most-followed social brand covering sports & culture through a women's lens, is seeking a Senior Social Media Specialist to discover, develop, and distribute content across all ESPN social platforms. This role will lead and contribute to both covering women’s sports and expanding ESPN’s overall audience of female fans on social. Primary sports of emphasis include (but are not limited to) women’s basketball, soccer, volleyball, softball and gymnastics. An ideal candidate has a knowledge of the aforementioned sports and brings ideas and insight into how to connect with various communities of women fans. They’ll have a proven mastery of writing and approving social copy under pressure while creating optimized assets for social platforms. The Senior Social Media Specialist will also be responsible for composing comprehensive plans and metrics reports, while collaborating across multiple internal teams. The Sr. Social Media Specialist will report to the Social Media Manager, espnW and will oversee at least one direct report. This position can be based in Bristol, CT, Charlotte, NC, New York, NY, or Los Angeles, CA.
Responsibilities:
- Ideates, creates and posts content (visual, video, text) that is optimized for social platforms, specifically Instagram, X, TikTok, Facebook and Snapchat.
- Manages content planning for various sports and events, assigning work to select peers and social designers.
- Collaborates with internal partners to make social content compelling to a broad audience.
- Edits and approves social posts in real-time for journalistic accuracy, relevance, and tone.
- Maintains proficiency in social media trends and best practices.
- Analyzes performance of social content, incorporates and shares insights with team regularly.
- Actively explores user generated content opportunities to tap into new trends and reach new audiences.
- Generates new ideas for building account engagement and growth across all platforms and accounts, with a special emphasis on the espnW brand.
- Sports happen on nights, weekends, and holidays and those shifts will be regular and required in this position.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a fast-paced social media environment with content creation responsibilities or relevant experience.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience using video editing software (e.g. Final Cut, Premiere).
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience using photo editing software (e.g. Photoshop, InDesign).
- Understands how to connect with and grow an audiences of women’s sports fans across all sports, taking into account elements like voice and representation that are uniquely important to female fans and athletes.
- Skilled in social media comprehension and execution across multiple social media platforms including TikTok, Instagram, X, Facebook, and Snapchat.
- Possess excellent news judgement and verbal/written communication skills
- Strong understanding of journalistic standards.
- Ability to work quickly and juggle multiple tasks during a typical workday.
- Ability to analyze and apply data to decision-making.
- Appreciation and understanding of popular culture that contributes to an understanding of the tastes of ESPN’s social media followers.
- Knowledge of current sports, including teams, players, storylines, and forward-facing media personnel.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous brand voice and account launch management.
- Experience using motion graphics or visual effects software (e.g. After Effects).
- Advanced knowledge of the latest social media and tech trends.
Required Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Journalism, Communications, Media or related field

The hiring range for this position in New York, NY is $81,918 to $109,890 per year and in Los Angeles, CA is $78,146 to $104,830 per year based on a 40-hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
